It's a bit much for my taste, but to each their own... http://www.luxist.com/2008/01/17/michael-andrettis-home-estate-of-the-day/
The grounds seem nice but the house is awful.... cielings are way too low for a 12,000 sqft place (then again the Andretti's are not very tall anyway)
They're lower than most normal homes, at least it appears that way. And what's up with the garage area? The design looks like cheap apartment buildings. I crapped a better design this morning. IMO, this home falls under the "beautiful by far, but far from beautful".
I bought a house once that had low ceilings, and the prior owners had ceiling fans installed. If you were 6' the fans would hit you in the head. I house earned the name "The planet of the Apes house" since you had to walk around like a monkey, to not be hit in the head by the fans.
He was married to his first wife when this was built. She wore white bobby socks with frilly stuff on top to the F1 races. The European press called her Daisy Mae. On the other hand maybe she had nothing to do with the interior. You can't buy good taste.
His house is next store to his father's house (ie Mario). I wonder if they will leave the walkway between the two homes for the new owner... Erik
I'm surprised he doesn't have a room with all his trophy's etc. I don't think it's too bad, for an Italian themed place. What's the elevated and enclosed walkway for? Is it to access the garage?
Very interesting home. Other than the small italian feel to it, the house really didnt flow together. I like the grounds as well though.
I always remember seeing a white Lambo Countach in the late 80's near Spruce Run in Jersey, I was always told that this was Michael Andretti's. It was the first time i ever saw a Countach, i can still remember exactly where on rt.31 i saw it over 20 years ago
I like this property alot better: Schumi should give some landscaping tips to Mike Andretti. Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is ugly. Look at that bedroom pic, looks like a museum. The style surely was the dernier cri... back in 1870... Even as ugly as it is, the price of 3.4 million seems a bit low, doesn't it?
Someone else mentioned it was had when he was married to that icon of horrendous taste (Sandy??). Looks like they just took $1,000-dollar bills and threw them at the walls...certainly more money than taste there.
Frank Lloyd Wright was correct in observing that "the biggest problem with architecture is that you can throw money at it!"
Oh dear... place looks like it's been cobbled together with about a century's worth of left-over building materials (I've never seen so many disparate bits stuck together in one place), not to mention a similar number of unresolved ideas.
I like it OK except for the low ceilings. Now I know they can't fit 6 holes on 10 acres, maybe they meant 100.
