I'm thinking of something orange. Can you tell me what it is? Guess! Something oraannge, something orrrrraaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnggeeeeeee...
Rich man's joke are always funny Basically the reason he got upset was a "group" of rowdy people said he wasn't funny. Hard to do your job when people come to your show and distract ya. He's back on the job, and no angry black people are going after him physically and blah blah blah...some are getting interview time to shine on TV. I don't see any guidelines in the freedom of speech I've come across many races of people who say whatever they want.....
reminded me of andy kaufman. some people just can't take a joke. why would you go to see a nitwit like richards, who has an odd comedic style then get upset when he goes goofy. you pays your money; you takes your chances.
Ya I know, he barely made any sense and couldnt stick to a single thought...it appears he was on something during the interview and sober while on stage...thats 2 no no's.
uh....not quite. when you pay your money, you go to be entertained, have a few laughs, listen to music, hear singing. richards went bezerk, it wasn't a bit. You expect Barabara Steisand to sing, not put on some kind of anti-Bush skit. Kaufman (even when he was doing his Tony Clifton bit) never called anyone a "n*gger". saw a Seinfeld rerun last night, couldn't help not thinking of him yelling "n*gger" on stage. Perhaps with the passage of time, but for now I don't feel the same way watching Seinfeld as I did before his rant.
+1 I love going to comedy clubs. I expect to be offended. (Come on, I'm Arab-American. These days, you wouldn't believe the nasty sh*t people say about us). But Richards went way, way, way, way out of line. If you don't believe it was a "big deal", you're out of your mind. I saw video of the entire incident. He CLEARLY looked deranged. And the "N" word wasn't even the worst of it. He screamed that this (i.e. his actions) were what happened "when you interrupt the white man". He screamed at one guy "shut up, 50 years ago you'd be hanging upside down with a fork up your a$$." I mean seriously, lynching as part of a comedy act? I don't think so. The guy went nuts. Lost it, and is paying the price. Plain and simple. (Oh, and to be fair, I have no problem with entertainers voicing their *political* (as opposed to racist) views and, since I think Bush is the F*cking anti-christ, I give kudos to Streisand and the Dixie Chics for having the courage to do it. Even though I hate Streisand...)
I, for one, am absolutely desensitized to the N word as is an entire generation. You hear this is rap music and movies every day by the very race of people who claim to be offended by the term. It's a non-event in my eyes. I don't think it's such a big deal. How can anyone be offended by this in this day and age? RMX
My thoughts exactly. If it such a "bad" term it should be treated as such by everyone, including the group it is directed to. Instead, it is thrown around in everyday life in much of their culture. Listen to a typical rap song or listen to a black comedian. It is FULL of that word. Am I wrong?
its not the word.. i use it at times with my black friends...lots of people do..lots of comedians do.. he said it with malice Malice is always the deciding factor in cases like this.
Well, I heard that he was back at the factory the next night but Jamie, the owner, said he has been banned from the club.
Fortunatly if any lawsuits happen he has the perfect lawyer for this..the black lawyer from Seinfeld! "It's outrageous, it's egregious, and it's preposterous."
I think any legal action is just unnecessary. He went crazy and with malice acted like a jerk. I don't think that is illegal. Let's start sueing everyone who calls us a bad name now or acts with mallice verbally toward us. The guy screwed up and didn't act like a gentleman. I wonder if the guys that were offended ever used a racial comment about whites? If you live in a glass house don't throw stones.
Yup. Then again i'm a first-generation american and the blacks I hang around with mostly aren't descendants of this country so I can be wrong.
Well I am not wrong on this one. And unless you have been living in a cave your entire life you would know what I am talking about. I saw the two guys he was addressing on the Today Show this morning. Looks like they got themselves a mouthpiece and are about to shake him down for some money.
It amazes me that someone would sue over name calling.. He was pissed and said a few bad words move on. They went to a comedy club you're going to be offended there? Michael Richards did not go to their house and call them names.. I could of been involved in several lawsuits last night during my hockey game.
