Does Michael Schumacher have a real chance of winning if the track stays wet?
As rain is the great equalizer, I would have to say......maybe. He might put the rain tires on at the right moment and be untouchable. He may be subject to an error by himself or another driver who is not good in the rain. But I would say that a rain race will provide him his best chance at a podium or win.
I was fortunate enough to be in the stands in Canada this year and I really thought we would see MS on that 3rd step of the podium. He still has his trademark excellent form in the rain. Now, if it rains, he needs some serious luck in the race with the pit strategy, etc. We shall see.
What the hell was I thinking? Why can't I let it go? I want to see him succeed so bad I've become delusional. I do believe he still has the talent but the team needs to pick up the development pace. I hope they are concentrating their efforts on next years car.
He does have it. The last race was spoiled by some silly steward. With the lap times he was posting he could have been easily challenging Massa and Hamilton.
I remember Coulthard immediately calling the stewards out on that call too. Specifically mentioning Mansell. I believe Eddie Jordan (of course) was the only party who agreed with the penalty. Very harsh indeed
I am surprised Coulthard called out the stewards on it. I thought he would be all for the penality based on MS and Coulthard history. It was a very harsh penality, I don't remember the last time seeing a stop and go penality.
I agree. In fact, in replay (and in my opinion) he simply slid on the wet and collided with Kobayashi. The penalty should not have happened. However, a part of racing over a long career is that sometimes you will receive a penalty when you shouldn't and sometimes you will go unpenalised when you really should be called out. (for example - and not to be comprehensive - I remember a couple of times when MS cut the white line of the pit exit and did not receive any penalty). Of course, since he was wearing red at time, I didn't mind the lack of penalty!
I also watched the replay a few times. The second replay shows the outside view which is a far more clear depiction. The rear end got loose and Michael tried to correct and in doing so went into Kob. Everyone was slipping out there. Extremely harsh stuff. He's a humble guy for taking it on the chin like that. We all know Ham would be rioting in the streets over such a call....
Look....I just think they're sick of him running into people....just like they were sick of LH doing it a couple of weeks ago. I don't think his crashes are as aggressive as LH's, just sort of clumsy. I wish he'd stop! He seems to do it more when things are going really well for him!
It was a hard hit and he could easily have taken himself out. He was lucky to get 2 points imho. Could Mike win in the rain ? Course he could, ask Opie .
MS is definitely a better rain driver than his current #10 standing, but he's still far from the top. But to the delight of Ferraripilot, I'd put him ahead of Nico .
Is anyone else in a mild state of shock that Ross Brawn has not found a teeny bit more speed 'somewhere'?
Humble.. Thats the word I was looking for. And I agree; it was probably Hamiltons fault to begin with.
Yes! I wouldn't say he is behind MS's perceived failure. But, he is the team leader. There is no argument, MS is one of the best on the grid. Hes lost very little if anything from a driver stand point. It is obvious the car is not up to speed. Brawn is a brilliant businessman. He knows how to sell upper management and sponsors on the idea that it takes time to develop a winning formula. Just hope the car comes quickly. MS is not getting any younger. If Brawn was not at MB I would second guess MSs return to glory. It's just going to take time. I think the question is will the car come around before Michael retires?
Definitely a big question indeed. I compare MB to BMW/Honda/Toyota and their efforts. Those teams proved without a doubt that it matters not how much cash is thrown into a team. If the players on the team are not right, nothing will do right. MB has Brawn/Bell/and the best suspension guy in the business and they know how to win championships because they have done it before. BMW/Honda/Toy had no idea what they were doing because they had no world championship players. For MB, it's a matter of grinding out a car through research. This is the exact same climb Red Bull made and no one ever believed they would be where they are, matter of fact everyone thought they would be done with racing by now. Hah. Funny how things work out.
I see MS is rated no 9 here. http://www.castroldriverrankings.com/rankings/ That's not bad out of 34.
I think he meant the F1 rankings. He is 8th just behind Nico at 7, and oddly Massa at 6th. Interesting how these things work.
