    Met Michele Ferte at the 1990 Watkins Glen IMSA GTO/GTU event when he drove the Ferrari of France Ferrari F40/LM with Hurley Haywood to second place.

    This was the famous event when heading onto the last lap, the Ferrari's turbo exploded in front of the pits
    and the rear of the car erupted into flames. Ferte persevered and crossed the finish line with the rear of the
    car fully engulfed and a fire truck on his tail.

    When he got back to the pits, Ferte asked, "Did it make a big noise?”.

    Sad news today.
