[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jVeKuDlKXw&feature=related[/ame] 10 years ago today we lost Michele in that terrible testing accident....always liked him...
One of the true gentleman racers of our time. He is still very much missed at Audi and they saluted him by putting a graphic of his helmet on the rear wings of the R18s at the Le Mans test. BHW
I got to watch him in 1983 at Monaco: A WDC if the car were any better. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember a story when he forst signed with Ferrari: He was tire testing, so he pulls in, they do a big shell game of swapping the tires around, and put the ones they took off right back on. So he goes out and turns some more laps, pulls back in, they ask him how they were different, and he replies 'Are you sure you didn't put the set on that you just took off?'
Remember him at the 86 Detroit GP, I was crew man on a Super Vee (morning race) Alboreto was in the pits watching the Super Vee race, started to rain my driver pitted for rain tires. we were busy with the tires, and Alboreto in his Italian accent told the drivers girlfriend he needed his shield cleaned Sadly she and he is no longer with us. A great man & driver! Only time I got to see him was in a ITC (DTM) race in Helsinki (think it was -94), oh boy did he push in that awesome Alfa 155...
