I am considering new tires for the 550 (stock 18" wheels) and am wondering if there is a better choice than spending the big bucks for the PS2's. I want good tires, but the most expensive aren't always the best. I've loved the Toyo RA-1's on my Porsche racecar and was considering their T1R model for the 550. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I've used PS2s. Goodyears, and PZeros, the Pzeros are by far the best. I have the Fiorano setup, not sure if that makes any diff for this.

It doesn't look like Pirellis come in the OEM 18" sizes for the 550, according to Tirerack. Am I missing something?

These are the results for matching sizes on Tirerack:
    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/CompareTireResults.jsp?search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&skipOver=true&vehicleSearch=true&startIndex=0&autoYear=1998&minLoad=S&frontRatio=40&autoModClar=&frontDiameter=18&skipOver=true&rearWidth=295%2F&rearDiameter=18&frontWidth=255%2F&autoMake=Ferrari&rearSortCode=54700&minSpeedRating=V&frontSortCode=54150&autoModel=550+Maranello&rearRatio=35&speed_rating=V&speed_rating=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&RunFlat=All&loadRank=2

And this is the Toyo site where I see that T1R's come in the correct sizes:

    Thanks!

I cannot stand the look of the PZeros. They'll never get onto my car. No need either, very happy with the PS2's.

Grant- Here are the Pirellis you want. 255/40 18 and 295/35 18 work and are the standard sizes on the 575M, 2001 550, and 550 Barchetta. Have them fitted to my 575M and they work great.

What I would really like are PS 2 Zero Pressures (no spare on my car), but they do not make suitable sizes.

Are you referring to the Advan Sports or the PS2's?

    Thanks!

Just an update here: I just swapped my old Pilot Sports (still plenty of tread, but they were made in 2000) with new PS2's and the difference is shocking. I imagine some small part of the improvement is due to the PS2 vs. PS1 upgrade, but I think >90% of it is due to the fact that 9 year old rubber is no longer soft and "high performance".

I expected an improvement, but not this big. If anyone has tires with date codes this old (even if the tread is deep), get new rubber asap.

Here's a link to read the date codes on the tires:
    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11&

Also, I was just offered brand new PS2's through a licensed Michelin dealer with date codes from 2005 - so always check that the tires are fresh when buying new ones.
