I just bought a 75 911S Targa (okay, in 75 the "S" didn't really mean anything, I get that)... the die hard Porsche guys really dislike these cars, but I actually sought one out. I've owned a 79 SC and an 85 Carrera and I am looking forward to seeing how this car compares. It's lighter, and with the exhaust opened up shouldn't be too far behind on the power.

These cars were so cheap that many, many have either been heavily modified or have just disappeared, so it's difficult to find a truly stock example. Mine no longer has the thermal reactors, of course, and has a proper fan, but otherwise is pretty much stock.

I really like them, esp. the '74-75's since they have a 2-year only interior and some other unique features. They have dried up on Beverly Hills Car Club as you rarely see any listed there anymore. I think part of the demand is due the lack of emission requirements for California registration.

The compressor and back end stuff was already gone, and I didn't like how they clutter up the dash. However, they are just bolted on to the bottom of the dash. Anyone who wants to can put them back on in the future.

I really enjoy how it drives. It has very light steering (even with no power!), and a nimble feel. I think a lot of that is the smaller tires than the later cars, and higher profile as well.

It's not the fastest car I've driven, but it does very nicely from 4000 RPM and up.

Looks like a nice, fun car. How's the mag case holding up?

Great! Of course, it was just rebuilt.

From everything I have read, once you get rid of the thermal reactors, put a proper fan on (not that 5-bladed thing that they came with), and maybe an oil cooler (mine had one from the factory), they do just fine.

And in fact, the 2.7 is a really fun motor. It makes all it's power from 4000-6000 rpm, and if you keep it up there it goes quite well.
