Amazing to see one in private hands finally! Imagine owning a jet that has a slight edge over the 1st generation F-18 Hornet in maneuverability. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioRnG8tT_DE[/ame]
First flight of the newly christened N29UB occurred on January 23rd 2011, during which it was ferried from Arlington Municipal to Snohomish County Airport in Everett, WA. (Paine Field), where The Historic Flight Foundation Museum is located, (Kilo 7). http://historicflight.org/hf/ Mr Sessions was kind enough to give me and Sparky P-51 a tour of his Tiger Cat a while back. A gracious gesture from a busy man.
I wonder what would melt an AmEx Centurion card faster -- placing the thing directly in the burner can, or paying the fuel bill after keeping the damn thing in afterburner for the better part of 3 minutes?!? Very cool though
Law He drove a nicely restored vintage land Rover when I met him to see the Tiger Cat. He had a nice mid-60's Rambler (220?) sharing the hanger with the Cat. I imagine if it has an engine he is interested.
Me too I could really use an aircraft carrier/ yacht full of warbirds with a race track on top + a palace for my harem LOL a custom 747 to carry all the toys & harem to my different palaces would b nice too
Session, Lutz, and all the other guys with retired warbirds should get together and form their own paramilitary force. They could fly around dropping non-explosive payloads (like washing machine drums and rear differentials) on hostile targets. "Hey, those idiots at the marijuana dispensary are attracting too many dirtbags to the neighborhood. Let's bomb them!"
I still remember going to the car swap meet in Portland about 5-6 years back and seeing 6 29's take off from the Nat'l Guard base there in pairs. What a sight it was to hear the engines scream as they took off then later come back to land
Unless the ANG switched sides. Who knows? Maybe the Ruskies gave them a smokin deal on slightly used Migs for some out of work Generals retirement fund.
We had part of a squadron of Mig-29s that the German government inherited from East Germany fly in Red Flags out of Nellis AFB. Some of the USAFE and USN guys were able to fly DACT with them in Europe, too. Soviet aircraft were fitted with NATO standard connectors for fuel, air, and electrical power, so they fit right into the German fleet. We always thought that pretty much showed the Soviet Union's intentions had we not shown a strong defense during the Cold War. After the wall fell, there was no problem getting the Russians and whoever else had them to sell spare parts and even airframes for the aircraft. The Germans eventually sold (gave) all of them, except one display aircraft, to the Polish AF, the last being transferred in 2004. Taz Terry Phillips
There were some MiG-29s here for the airshow in Hillsboro several years back. It could have been them. I don't remember if there were 6 of them, though.
An air show? 10-20 bucks A Jet.... a lot more A fleet of them.... even more. the annual costs with inspections, CE, maintenance, fuel, hangar space, etc etc...... probably as much... lol I'd imagine a MIG would be 3-5 million+
By chance, I went to Paine Field this afternoon to pick up some stuff that I left there and they were getting the Mig ready to launch. John Sessions and the young pilot taxied out to the active and made a max effort TO and climb out with much noise and huge sound. Went out of sight and out of hearing almost straight up after astonishing acceleration. So I went home and took a nap.
