I absolutely love the look of the 348 with its side strakes, squared off front bumper and even love the rear lights that most everyone seems to hate.

What I don't love is the dogleg 5 speed and the "low" revving engine...would absolutely love the 6 speed and engine from the 355, so much so that I've seriously considered looking for a 348 and swapping in a 355 powertrain but found on here that it's a pretty tall task to take on, its not a "simple" bolt in.

So the next option could be to make a 355 looks like a 348 by swapping the lower door scoops for strakes (Im under the impression this is a like for like swap, and the entire door isn't needed?), replacing the front bumper and rear bumper/lights.

How feasible is this? Direct bolt ons or custom fabrication work?

Have you driven a well-sorted 348 in anger or are you going off what you’ve read/heard?

Going off of what I've read online and seen on YouTube sound wise...and then theres the whole dogleg 5 speed thing.

I haven't driven either yet but I'm crushing hard on the 348 body haha (currently own a 458 Italia which I'll be keeping)

I’ve driven both. I’m not going to deny that the 355 is an incrementally a better motor, but the 348 is 85% of the experience if not more. Plus the manual steering is so much better (IMO). Buy a well-sorted 348 or restore one. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Shameless plug… I think my 348 sounds fantastic

That does sound fantastic (assuming aftermarket exhaust?)...but on the 348 it almost sounds like it's being short shifted before the redline, sounds like it wants to keep going whereas the 355 sounds like its really being rung out.

The heart wants what the heart wants! To answer your question: I *think* the bumpers and door panels will bolt up, but the lights definitely won’t. The rear quarters are slightly different. That’s why 348s with round round lights always look a little goofy.

Full disclosure: I've never owned one. But I kind of dig the dogleg 5-speed. Maybe it's just the nostalgia speaking because as a teenager, I thought it was about the coolest thing in the world. But in any event, I still like the idea - it gives the car a little extra personality.

My main concern would be if you have other 3-pedal cars in your garage and are worried about getting confused jumping from one to the other.

    Otherwise - maybe it's worth a shot?

I love my dogleg and the gears still go up in the same direction. They were designed for race cars where the only time you use 1st gear is in the pits or if you screwed up. For me it's just at stop lights. Rowing 2-3 is amazing and you can get to a high enough speed in 3rd to get in trouble with the authorities.

I run my little 3.4L to 8k all the time and it sounds amazing. It's all what you want from the cars you own.

The 348/355 switchover was the point when, under Luca’s command, Ferrari set about to make their cars more daily-able and easier to live with. Just depends what side of the boundary you prefer.

    Buy a 348
    Buy a 355
    Swap 348<->355 body parts
Sell 348 to someone who has been informed of what you did to it.

Get the 348 Val, having a 348 and 458 in the stable would make an excellent combo!

Old school and new school experiences.

That is my plan, to keep my 348 and purchase a "modern" Ferrari like a 458 or 488 one day so I can enjoy the best of both worlds.

The 348 is an amazing machine and I am sure you would enjoy it for what it is.

I agree with the comment above just picked up a 348 wonderful car to drive. The road feel is incredible. I had a 355B 6 speed in the past I don't think I would pay the price difference.

I prefer some angles of the 348 to the 355. Both 348 and 355 have aged great.

    Are you sure?

I am under impression that max. power comes at 7200 rpm for all F119 D/G/H variants but fuel cut off would be 7700 rpm for D/G and H would go up to 7750 rpm.
