When I visited the hall of fame 8 years ago I thought is was like one big Hard Rock Cafe minus the burgers. Poor Cleveburg.

The opening ceremony for the Hall of Fame in Cleveland was amazing. Ray Charles; Aretha; Iggy Pop and Sonic Youth; Al Green; James Brown; all the other usual suspects, if memory serves, including Robbie Robertson, Bruce, John Fogerty, the guitarist from Guns 'N Roses, etc. ad naseum.

I used to go to the yearly event at the Waldorf, but once they started to get more involved in the television production, it got slowed down, more produced, and as a result, more boring. The first time I went, as we were sitting down to appetizers in the ballroom, a guitarist started wailing on the stage- it took me a minute to realize it was Jeff Beck. The used to have these jam sessions at the end of the night, and it was pretty cool to see some of the folks play together in something not much bigger than a 'club' setting. One of my favorites was the early roll and stutter man, Solomon Burke. Like the Oscars, there are many unsung heros, and folks who only get recognized after way too long. It is also very much an industry schmooz-a-thon, which means a very high ratio of lawyers to talent. :)
