Change is constant. Pretty kewl. ______________________________ Technology changes all the time. Typewriters get better, cars get better, computers get better. Most of this change is gradual: Competitors deliver the next improvement, we respond, they respond in turn and so it goes. However, once in a while, technology changes in a dramatic way. Something can be done that could not be done before, or something that can be done "10X" better, faster or cheaper than it would have been done before." - Andrew Grove
I kept waiting for the ad to pop up. That was pretty cool, although I have to say the music helped create a mood. Meanwhile, 45 million people are waking up to an identity nightmare because TJMaxx allowed their info to get out.
Actually, the scarey part of this this the exponential advances in technology. That change is not constant, but rapidly accelerating! It wouldn't be so bad if things were moving at a rate that the majority of the population could possibly keep up with, but that is not what this little presentation is telling us. Another thing to consider: what is the primary force moving the technology machine? Money. No one is out there building the next supercomputer or accident-proof automobile for the sake of humanity, but rather for a larger share of the world market. I'm not saying this is bad, it can be a good thing since it puts the power back to the people. We'll buy the next thing when we're ready for it, and if not enough people are ready, the profits won't be there to feed the machine... Now I'm just babbling, but it was an interesting video!
But, but, but...I thought the world was coming to an end because of Neocon Globalists and Gorebal Warming?
Well said. I think the important part to pay attention to is the fact that Knowledge doubles every 18 months to two years and that Our Teachers are dumber than most third world, or less industrialized nations, own students. Couple that with our see saw economy on the brink of globalization we may come to a point where ignorance is so intolerable we may be forced to use the bomb on nations that continue to try killing others or sell them weapons so they can kill each other. Ranting Ranting aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...booomb.. My head exploaded.
"Gorebal Warming" I can fathom very well, "Neocon Globalist" seems a contradiction in terms. Can you explain?
Nintendo invested more $ than education...because they profit by it. We need school vouchers and competition in our schools, that would cure it. Maybe then the high school kids could do math.
Didn't have the patience to watch it all, i'll try again later lol. At the end i thought it'd have an ad for the termainator or something..... "The machines are taking over!"
Excellent point. Government-run education is crap, government-run retirement plan is screwed..... now let's hope that people are intelligent enough to realize how absolutely RIDICULOUS a government-run health care system would be.
No, I haven't watched the video yet I clicked on the thread expecting to read something usefully cool, instead all I get is a link to something else, without any info on what it is. -R
You should watch it Robin. It's a great video about the advancement of technology and our place in this world.
Research is NOT under the purvue of the federal government. Our universities do our research with private money.
Robin you really need to watch the video. Thats it in a nut shell. You have so far commented twice in a thead that you havnt even taken the time out to watch the video that eveyone is talking about. Its like watching Seinfeld with the volume turned off, It doesnt work. JJ
**OT** Well maybe not, but again it shows what's important in this world. Not educating our children, but selling them video games. Speaking of our government, how much are they spending on the war again? Why can't that money go to making our streets safer at night, closing the Mexico border so all those illegals will stop taking jobs and $$ away from our rightful citizens, and giving more into the education fund of this country to ensure our children are well educated and intelligent? No, it would be better spent blowing up the middle east in the interest of oil...oops, I mean national security.
i wouldn't feel comfortable with a 1000 dollar computer exceeding the computational capabilities of the human race
You don't understand. It's not a matter of whether the Fed thinks it's important or not, it's a matter of whether the Fed has the Constitutional right to spend tax $ on research. It's really not. FUrthermore, our colleges and universities spend way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way, way more on research and development than NES spent on video game design. It's funny how you can take something like Nintendo spending a lot of a video system and the Fed not spending a lot on research, and then project that onto the whole world to show our"wacked prioritites." Very flawed logic. I decided long ago not to waste my time with an argument revolving around Iraq. It just ends up giving me heartburn and lessening my faith in humaniy.
