Hi guys, I can't find the FILTER in my Mini Cooper. LAfun2 described it to me as towards the firewall. It is right there. Use a deep 36mm here to open the canister........ Sorry, I'm retarded, does anyone have a picture at all, or maybe more description. I'm ticked that the OM doesn't even ADDRESS the oil change procedure. Thanks!
no, the warranty for oil changes is for the first 30 thousand miles. I'm pretty sure..........so I need to do it myself. Also, a BMW dealer won't do it under warranty, it has to be a MINI dealer...........1.5 hours away.
Besides, It's a bonding experiece, changing the oil in your own car. Cars appreciate that and are much more loyal and dependable in return.
On a Mini Cooper, it's right up front. You can spin off the filter (or canister, depending on the vintage) without removing the grill, but only about 9 screws and the grill's out and you have awesome access. The MINI Cooper, on the other hand, does not have quite the servicability of the Mini. From what I gather, owners do very little of their own maintenance. Check out some of the MINI lists: http://new.minimania.com/msgthreads.cfm http://www.mini2.com/ Good luck! Bill
Fanatic, I work on all my cars on my own. Check your PM for my phone number, and I will walk you through it. It isn't as easy as that Bill. BMW will do it for free, when your car computer calls for a service. That depends on how you drive. My Cooper S says first service is due at 12K miles. So BMW will only change it for free at 12K. However, since I have other transport, I only put 4100 miles on the first year of ownership. In the meantime, I did my own oil change. (at 6 month point) Then I called BMW after a full year of ownership. I told them, I don't drive my car much, so I shouldn't be duped out of the free oil changes, others get who drive their car. They informed me that if your mileage is lower than when the oil needs to be changed, they do it by year. So at exactly one year, I got a free oil change from then. Since then (another 6 months) I did another one myself. Bill I think that is a very inaccurate view of the owners. Most owners that I know (about 50+) does all their own work. I have both a new Cooper S and a few vintage ones, so I know quite a bit of people across the board.
