A car I am stalking had this major done in 2011. This owner is not really knowledgeable and just gives his car over to service (doesn't know what headers are on the car).

Is this an absolute minimal major service? No bearings, tensioners, no mention of other seals and gaskets. Looks like belts only. If the engine is out, why not go after all that?

Looks very minimal to me. Might want to talk with the service provider. Maybe the owner gave instructions, belts and no more.

Penultimate line appears to cover some gaskets

Whilst it may be sensible to replace tensioners etc my recollection is its not an obligation if servicing by the book

Not every major will require replacement of every part - if the parts are in fine order than there is no need to just replace parts that are not worn.

I will not comment on that list, but it is OK to either contact the shop involved or to investigate thrir reputation. People do that with me all the time, I have seen 'doctored' invoices to suggest a service which had NOT actually been performed. It is after all, just a sheet of paper!

Why are so many Ferrari owners so paranoid about having to throw so much money at servicing because they are told that its the correct thing to do. I have the complete service record for my 348. I've had it for 10 years - only had 8000 mile on it when I got it and all the majors have been so called minimal majors.

Next month my car is to have its first major major after 22 years. This will include belts, tensioners, cam seals, valve timing etc. Not that its needs it - that after 22 years and 34,000 miles I feel it deserves it. But its just not necessary every major service.

The point is. With 35 hours of labor built into an engine removal why not go
The extra bit and do the tensioners , bearings and other bits that are in the ricambi kit at least

No need to throw away good parts Bob. The main reason for the 3 year major is the belts and as many would agree, 4-5 years is ok.

If it already had something like Hill tensioners installed...

22 years???? That's balls right there.

DAve rocks. This statement makes sense if it was a typical engine that you didn't have to drop everytime you needed to do something. So, I have to agree with the labor hours involved in pulling the engine out that we have to pay for. What logical explantion would there be not to replace parts on the engine while it was out. After all whats more expensive? Parts or labor on these? Just an opinion. :>)

I totally agree with is. Unless you track your car, it might make a difference, and wether you live in a dry climate which might cause the belts to crack. But these are good cars.

Depends on the parts. The whole reason for putting in the Hill tensioners is that they are designed to last longer, so I don't know why you'd replace them every 5 years as well...I don't plan on replacing mine at the next major. Maybe the one after that, but it will depend on the condition.
