Several months ago I posted a problem I was having with my sons Mini. We had modded the car with an exhaust, air intake, an uderdrive pully for the supercharger and colder plugs. The car overheated and was loosing coolant. I was worried that the dealer would see the mods and void the warranty. I took the car in and they inspected the car, determined that the reason for the overheating and coolant loss was from a cracked thermostat housing. They replaced the housing, flushed the coolant system, performed a complete fluid service, and replaced the front pads and rotors. All of this was done under warranty.
Three weeks ago the check engine light came on. Plug in a code reader and determined that the car was missfiring on cylinder #1. We reset the codes and the problem went away. It went away untill we were in stop and go city traffic. The car refused to idel and the check engine light came on and would blink intermitantly. Got the car home and checked the plugs. #1 was badly fouled. Cleaned the plugs and tried again. The car still wouldn't run at less than 2000 rpm. Called roadside assistance and had the car towed 90 miles to the nearest dealer.
THey took a look at the car and said the problem was with the cold plugs I had installed. The changed the plugs. Car still wouldn't run. They did a leakdown test and found no compression in #1. Pulled the head and found that the rings in #1 had broken and were bouncing around in the cylinder. WIth out any questin Mini Usa replace the entire short block. New block, crank, rods, and pistons. No issues no questions. They even as a courtesy fixed a rattle in the after market exhaust we had. The only charge was for the clutch disc I had them replace because the clutch had a lot of hot spots from sliopping it when we were stuck in city traffic and the car wouldn't run below 2000RPM.
More companies need to treat customers this well,.

Wow, great service. Test drove a Mini a couple months ago and they seem like nice cars. If it weren't totally impractical for my use I'd be driving one today. I need a 4-door.
