Hi everyone, Just wondering if any Fchatters will be attending MIPIM Asia, the international exhibition for Property Professionals? Link here - http://www.mipim.com/en/mipim-asia/ I will more than likely be attending. I had some questions regarding Hong Kong if you don't mind me asking; 1 - The Convention will be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. I am preferably looking to stay in a Starwood owned Property so have looked at the Sheraton located directly across from the centre over in Kowloon. As the exhibition is on Hong Kong Island how frequently do ferries run across there and how long do they generally take? 2 - Any other Hotel recommendations? Thanks for your assistance!
The Star Ferry is very frequent so no worries there, and it takes 5 minutes to get from one side to the other so Sheraton is perfectly fine. As for other starwood hotels i think you are limited to just a few and most should be on the kowloon side anyways.
Why not stay at Grand Hyatt or Harbourview - both attached to Convention Centre. Weather will suck and travelling about will be a hassle
Bump! I confirmed my ticket for the convention today, I will most likely be in Hong Kong between the 8-14 of November. Thankyou all for your suggestions. A couple of other questions if you could please answer; 1 - I would like to go to Macau for the day, what is your recommended way of doing this? 2 - Any Fchatters like to meet up for dinner/a drink at some stage? Unfortunately my colleague cannot join me so I will be travelling alone, if anyone is free on the 9th before the convention starts that would be great! Thanks!
There are two ways to get to macau from HK, ferry or helicopter. Huge price difference between the two so i suggest the ferry which takes 1 hour exactly, the Ferry is located at Shun Tak center which you can access by mtr or taxi just say macau ferry if you take a cab.
Don't forget your passport when going to Macau - it's obvious but I can't tell you how many times I've seen tourists get turned back at the terminal. No need to get Macau patacas - hk dollars work anywhere at a 1-to-1 exchange rate (actual rate is 1.03 patacas to 1 hkd).
Hi again all, I am confirmed to arrive in Hong Kong on the night of the 8th, I am staying in the Wanchai area within short walking distance to the convention centre, and I will now be travelling with a colleague. I had a question regarding nature trails. Of course I will do the normal tourist thing and check out The Peak, but I would prefer to climb/walk it rather than catch the tram. I have done some googling and some pretty broad information is out there. Which trails are the best, and are there any other trails in Hong Kong aside from The Peak that you would recommend? In all likelihood I will only have time to do one of them. Thanks in advance!
Take a cab to Hatton Road, and walk up, you will see people walking to the peak its a good 30 walk and very nice during November. On the way up you can also check out the pinewood battery http://gwulo.com/pinewood-battery
DJS - I'll be at MIPIM. Ping me on private email if you'd like to catch up, can give you some suggestions on tourist sights and less touristy sights/walks.
Thread bump. MIPIM Asia is again being held at the HK convention centre, this year between 15-17 November. I will again be in attendance with a colleague. Anybody here going to be in attendance?
