    I need to service my drivers side mirror arm. Does anyone have a drawing of the mirror arm showing how it is attached to the door triangle piece? I need to remove it and repair my mirror arm. Someone at the mall must have bumped it and it broke off where the piviot shaft meets the arm. Any help would be appreciated. Paint is still perfect. No damage on the door either. I am really lucky for that. How do I repair this damage? Where do I get another arm? Maybe I can machine a counter sunk bolt hole thru the center and use an allen head type fastener to remount the broken shaft. Anyone else have to fix their broken mirror arm?

    Greg, I just got done repairing my drivers mirror because of the same thing. There are 3 bolts that attach the mount on the interior side of the door. they are covered by that triangular plastic cover. So here is the process............

    Remove cover
    Remove the interior panel of the door.
    Find the wire that goes to the mirror and follow it to the plug...unplug.
    You then need to note the color of wires and how they mate.
    Why?
    Because you will have to disassemble the plug and remove the wires from their locations on the mirror side in order to be able to completely seperate the mirror from the car to work on it........you'll see what I mean............
    Now you can remove the mirror and all it's components.
    There should be a bolt with a spring that runs through the door side mirror flange into the mirror arm. at this point it is all self explainatory.

    I am away from home on biz otherwise I would post pix and a step by step.

    I am planning on showing the complete install of mine when I get my new mirror glass for both sides and also install new low cost heaters on the mirrors,

    I was able to pull the wire out of the door but the plug will not clear the door panel. How does the inner door panel fasten to the door. I need to move it away from the door for the (looks round) plug to get out to unplug it. Any help. I wish I had a drawing or picture to look at. I do not want to break anything.

    Remove door lock knob
    Remove door storage pocket....pull up on it
    Now 2 10mm nuts are exposed that need to be removed
    There is a philips head screw hidden in the carpet fibers at both bottom corners of the panel
    Disconnect the rod that connects the inside door handle to the door latching mechanism
    Lft the panel straight UP and there ya go.................
    I may have left out a step or 2 so just be observent and take your timre....It's a very simple R&R

    Thank you for the description on how the panel comes off. That is what I needed to know. I will let you know how it goes. Did you replace yours or repair it?

    I repaired the mirror housing. I then had "wide angle" mirror lenses made for much better visibility. I also lubricated the mirror motors and installed new heaters on the mirrors..............

    I will be posting a detailed write up about this whole "process" along with comparison pix ....once I get home.

    Got it off. I understand what you were talking about removing the wires from the plug assembly. How did you repair your mirror arm? I'm thinking precision drill and tap a stud to screw into the mirror arm. The stud diameter should just fit inside the bore of the screw. Epoxy (JB Weld?) the treaded in stud to the mirror arm. At the same time epoxy the broken off piviot shaft to the mirror arm where it broke off the arm. Have the stud length exactly the same as stock assembly with screw head. The threaded stud with nylock type nut is now the mounting fastener. The original piviot shaft diameter and length is maintained. Or is there an easier fix-it?

    Interesting how the fix came about. Jim who does all my body and paint work confidently said he would come over with some two part bonding agent that he uses to glue the new car fenders etc. on with. The specs showed over 4,000# strentgth. We glued the broken piece back on and let it set for two days. Then I went to Ace Hardware and found a perfect diamerter and length tapered allen head stainless steel bolt. I went to Randy's to use his drill press. We drilled the center thru. The glue that was in the center bore was like metal to drill thru. When we drilled thru the aluminum mirror arm the effort was the same as drilling thru the glue. I was going to counter sink the mirror arm for the tapered allen head screw and then use a locking nut to bold everything together. We did not do that. What we did was thread the mirror body section (about 1 " solid aluminum material) that we drilled thru. I then screwed the assembly together to test it. It worked very well, very strong repair. I reassembled the mirror and door. I locktighted the bolt thread the last 1/4". The repair is stronger than new.
