I spied this through the gates of a place a few doors down from the E Ferrari museo in Modena - any idea what it is? The Officina part of the museum was interesting, but the main exhibit is only 17 cars (counting the SUV) and the only one I’d never seen before was the prototype 408. Odd that the exhibition is called Game Changers, yet no mention of 308 (which arguably saved the company). Loved this pic of the first 12 F1 engine! Also taken by the contrast of the new ‘engine cover’ building and the surviving tower in someone’s backyard! Your comment was myopic. Anyway, I'll fix it up for you to make the comment from the article more balanced: These days the swagger, beauty and engineering of 20th century classic cars is shaded by criticism of their carbon footprint. However that sentiment, if it in fact exists, needs to viewed in the context of reality. Global car emissions count for 12.7% of all greenhouse gas emissions, of which classic cars, (defined as vehicles 25 years or older) account for 0.04%). In Victoria alone, the classic car industry pumps 255 million dollars annually into the state economy providing employment within the trade sector for the restoration and maintenance of such vehicles. A little known fact is the support of regional communities, not just from a financial component, but also from a mental health perspective for both the region and the participants. Classic cars get people and communities together and it's vital this history is shared with the broader community and particularly young people. Classic cars have no embodied energy component and require no rare earth mining to maintain. The carbon argument is mute. Like gender identity politics and first nations peoples (Of which their benefits consume more Federal money than Medicare) the arguments are heavily politicised by entitled agenda waving transexuals. Unfortunately, science is used as a punching bag by politicians who won't be in power in 5 years time so they must cause as much dissent, scaremongering and misinformation as possible. Carbon dioxide is currently 0.03% of the atmosphere. A recent survey in the city of Melbourne questioned 500 people in the city of which only 7 were able to accurately recount that figure. Whilst the concentration of carbon dioxide has increased 50% from the 1700s, no one has been able to determine why this concentration has been going up and down before this. A conveniently ignored fact is that methane and nitrous oxide are significant contributors to greenhouse gases however the agriculture segment are strangely silent in this regard. The largest polluter and emitter of greenhouse gas is fashion and shipping, emitting, 15% and 21% respectively. (Aviation is 3% in case anyone was wondering). The impact of the carbon footprint of classic cars is a mute point. Instead of worrying about this fanciful and deluded claim, Australians should be concerned about the sale of State and Federal infrastructure (such as ports and airports) and utilities companies to the Chinese. Compulsory military service for 3 years should be introduced to harden up the entitled and narcissistic young snow flakes (a year in the armed servicers, a year in retail and a year on life skills, like manners, writing skills, financial management and how to deal with people).
And as I’ve said before the whole argument about ‘carbon’ and ‘climate change’ is a pile ofobfuscation - the problem is POLLUTION pure and simple; carbon is just one part of it.
Heveningham Concours, some interesting stuff including some bustedarse old Rollers for Rob: https://velocetoday.com/heveningham-concours-2023/
Did anyone go to the Noosa Concour d’elegance? Big street crowds I hear from people who were there and heaps of publicity on the run up but I can’t find a single wrap up or results on the ‘official’ website. Found a video made by a very excited young kid which showed all the cars entering Hastings Street, led by a Ferrari Barchetta?
Loved the pastel blue 911 at the end of the vid. Thought it may have been my old car car but this one has a hole in the roof.
For a guy that wants to be a car reviewer, he doesn't know much. If he said "very nice" one more time, I would have thrown up. Good to zip through with the sound off, though.
This genuine 7 appears to be great value and cond: https://paulblank.com.au/2023/06/21/1967-lotus-7-series-2-1-2-37500-ono-2/
The value is in the provenance. Unless the CLA 7 registrar knows the car, it's a bit dodgy. You can build one with all the right bits from scratch, including the VIN plate.
You can buy blank ones. The style of engraving and the font of stamping usually gives a clue, but there are well-known guys in the club who would give it the yay or nay pretty quickly. And the provenance is the key - if the history can be traced, that's good evidence of authenticity.
