Re lack of spectators. I was talking to some guys in San Fran about the lack of crowds etc. They were all photoshopped out for some reason. Where are ALL the cops guarding ALL the intersections to stop pedestrians and cars entering the area??? None to be seen but there must have been hundreds of them for public safety reasons. No cars on the cross streets etc. All photoshopped out. I guess they wanted an "On The Beach" type image. Re: Ken Block Sure he is not Sebastian Loeb (but hey who is??) but he probably makes more $$$$$ than him doing this promotional stuff with less risk and danger. This is his business and he is very successful at it. He is not the world rally champ but he is a very successful businessman, who can drive a bit. He is a showman. An entertainer who can drive a bit. And sure he was mid pack in the WRC but well ahead from last.
I'm not disputing your 2nd parra at all,in fact I think you'll find I agreed,to an extent. It's more of the B/S side of your 1st parra that get's my goat,do the video watchers REALLY expect that he had a clear run? for all the reasons you've noted. I'd like to see him come out an do it all cold, that's what the WRC quip was all about....AND they have a looklap or 2. So how many time's did Block have to practice to get this lot on tape, have another look at some of the overhead's and check out the previous rubber on the ground.
After watching Megafactories, there's only one thing stopping me from buying a Koenigsegg. You can probably guess what that is
It's Hollywood even though it is 500kms north!! lol No one would believe it was a 1 take and continuous. Lots of setting up. Lots of re-jigging stuff. It is promotional. It is not supposed to be real. It is just for fun. The cable cars are even cardboard fakes. It's Hollywood.
... but not at WRC level. Cody Crocker crashed out constantly too and similar results to Ken Block with an Australian (and Japanese for a short time) supported Subaru drive, but I'm reasonably sure if you talk to Loeb and others Cody was not considered real opposition. Just like a lot of amateur drivers enter Le Mans every year, I assume there are lots that fill up the WRC field too and unless you get the results you are not WRC material IMO. Ken Block did not get the results ... 6 points for 2011 season being his best with a best result of 8th and 9th. Cody Crocker came 28th with 2 points in 2004 with a 7th place in the Australian rally. Even in his own rally, the best he could manage was 7th. Note: Cody has won the Asia Pacific rally championship 4 times and Australian rally championship 3 times but if you go to his own site he does not even mention his WRC results ... Conclusion: Cody and Ken Block are way behind the levels of professional WRC drivers, way behind. Loeb could do that drive through San Francisco, but the difference is he would not be stunting, instead he would be unbelieveably fast!. Pete
Talking about Loeb I just think he is incredible. He just seems to have everything. He is bloody fast but not reckless. So good looking NTTIAWWT, and that French accent, and Carl thinks he is wonderful too, except he is not an Asian boy. NTTIAWWT. Very open and honest. I have seen so many post race interviews where he tells it like it is. No sugar coating and politically correct BS etc. He just seems to be the total package and seems to be a really nice guy to boot. Bastard. 9 times WRC Champion. He CAN drive.
HSV Gen-F: hot VF Commodore range revealed at midnight |*CarAdvice Yum. 427Kw HSV Commodore should be fun. M
In my POV(which doesn't really add up to much)rally driving is THE ultimate discipline of motorsport. Also,Iv'e gotta get some brownie points back,John,I feel just about all rally drivers are REAL people,no prima donnas allowed. You look at Petter Solberg, loves the spectators and has plenty of time for 'em(as do all/most of the rest). I suppose it's because the spectators are so close to the action, and sometimes are included in it. You get 1 or 2 looklaps prior to the event, and they are not flatout speed ones, you've one only crack at each corner and everybody knows what the consequences are if you miss,no bouncy tyre wall,no fancy painted sandtraps. Now Kimi's quite obviously one who has seen his limitation's in the WRC,as his results of it,and compared to this year, are showing. He's back in a much more comfortable zone ATM.
I have seen some great TV coverage of the WRC when the two Sebastians - Ogier and Loeb were team "mates" going head to head. They computer overlaid the positions of their cars on the course using their GPS data. Ogier gained going into every corner ie fast in, but lost on very corner coming out ie slow out. Loeb gained maybe 0.05 sec overall on every corner. Loeb was slow in and fast out, corner after corner after corner. Incredible. Every corner 0.05 sec gain. It was like a metronome. So consistent.
Luckily our Clubbies will have close to 300HP, not 140 like that one. Couldn't stand to have Whom in the Indian SUV catching me! (Ship of Fools) Image Unavailable, Please Login
The H/P amount in your Clubbies increases every time you write about them......... Pity you don't take into consideration the completion date/Jeeez Brett took a short time for his resto..
