Revenge attacks feared after Sydney shooting By Sean Rubinsztein-Dunlop Revenge warning.. The victim's family may have links to bikies. (ABC TV) Police are preparing for possible revenge attacks after a Sydney man, believed to be from a prominent family with alleged bikie links, narrowly survived a double shooting last night. Officers say a 35-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were pulling up at the man's home in a Lamborghini when it was sprayed with bullets on a quiet street on Sydney's North Shore at 11:25pm (AEST). Police say the gunman had been waiting for the man and was trying to kill him when he shot him five times in the chest, arm and stomach on Neerim Street at Castle Cove. Neighbours say they did not hear the shooting and were not aware of a problem until emergency crews arrived. The 35-year-old is in a critical but stable condition after having surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital, where a number of visitors have gathered. The ABC understands the man is Fadi Ibrahim, whose brother owns a number of Sydney nightclubs. Another of Mr Ibrahim's brothers has alleged links to bikie gangs. They were questioned by the Wood royal commission in 1995 about their role in the illegal Kings Cross drugs trade. Another of Mr Ibrahim's brothers, Michael, was last year sentenced to up to nine years' jail for manslaughter over his role in the fatal stabbing of Robin Nassaur, the brother of Fat Pizza comedian George Nassaur. The 22-year-old woman who was injured in last night's attack is recovering with a gunshot wound to the leg. Detective Inspector Peter Yeomans, from Chatswood Police, says the 35-year-old man is lucky to be alive. "The male hasn't given a statement to police," he said. "He's just got out of surgery and he will be in hospital for a lengthy period of time due to his injuries, and we have spoken to the female involved in the incident... "I think it would be quite obvious from his injuries that someone tried to kill the male in the vehicle." Doctors say the the man will need more surgery. Detective Inspector Yeomans says the house was known to officers, who had been there before. He says they are prepared for any attempts at revenge. "Police are always mindful of reprisal attacks," he said. "However, we've put in a number of proactive strategies in relation to looking at any possible reprisals." Police are questioning a number of witnesses. Anyone with information about the double shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Tesla: 500th Roadster delivered New York (NY) Tesla said it has just delivered the 500th unit of its Lotus Elise-based all-electric Roadster. The 500th Roadster went to Martin Tuchman, former chairman and CEO of Interpool, and chairman of The Tuchman Foundation and a board member of The Parkinson's Alliance and Parkinson's Disease Foundation of Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Tuchman said he plans to charge his Roadster partly with solar energy thanks to photovoltaic panels he helped install throughout his hometown of Kingston, NJ. The 2009 Tesla Roadster is currently priced at $101,500 in its 248 hp base configuration. Tesla will begin offering a $121,000 performance model in July, which is promised to deliver 288 hp and shaves off two tenths from the 0-60 mph time (3.7 seconds for the performance model). Tesla plans to introduce its first sedan, called the Model S, in 2011 as a limited edition version to 1000 buyers. The price of this limited edition has not been determined yet, but we know that the full-production version of the Model S, which is scheduled for a 2012 launch, will cost $49,900 in its base configuration. http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/42781/178/
Aston Martin Rapide caught undisguised in parking lot Finally, we can now show you pictures of a completely uncovered Aston Martin Rapide, thanks to photographer Simon Gregg. Gregg submitted the photos to the good folks at CAR Online, who quickly posted the pics online. Aston Martin Design Director Marek Reichman once said, "We wanted to make the most beautiful four-door sports car in the world." The British automaker seems to have come very close to achieving their goal. Although the car is not expected to be introduced to the public until September's Frankfurt Motor Show, these photos show a car that will be stiff competition with rival Porsche. The $89,000 to $132,600 Porsche Panamera luxury sports car was recently introduced to the public with a 3.6 liter six cylinder generating 300 hp, a 400 horsepower 4.8 liter V8 engine, and a 500 hp turbocharged V8. While pricing is unknown for the Rapide, it will come with a 6.0-liter V12 generating 470 horsepower and 600 Nm of torque paired with a responsive Touchtronic gearbox. Performance figures have not been released, but we expect the Rapide to post numbers that are in between the two Porsche Panamera V8 models. Those cars go 0-60 mph in either 4 seconds or 4.8 seconds, depending on which engine is chosen. For photographer Simon Gregg, the looks of the car have completely exceeded expectations. "This new addition from Aston Martin is most certainly going beat the Porsche Panamera in the style stakes!" he told CAR Online. "It has the same aggresive look of the Vanquish from the rear and even offers the appearance of being a two-door car, rather than a four-door when viewed from certain angles." Unfortunately, Gregg was not able to get pictures of the interior. He did say that vehicle has four individual seats, thanks to the center console which splits the entire cabin down the middle. "The facia and interior door panels share the styling found in the current DBS and V8 range. Rear access is via a Vantage-style rear hatch, which will make loading up very easy," he said. Aston Martin CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez previously said, "The Rapide will exist in a class all of its own, a true Aston Martin with the high performance and dynamic excellence that defines the brand, and a luxurious sporting grand tourer without equal." Looks like he wasn't lying. Source: carmagazine.co.uk Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Free goat with every ute 28th May 2009 MITSUBISHI Motors New Zealand is offering a free goat with every Triton ute sold before August in a novel effort at correcting the economy. Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand general sales and marketing manager Peter Wilkins said the economy's recovery was in the hands of the rural sector, and goats, like Tritons, were "hardy, versatile units which will integrate directly into existing farm operations". Goats improved farm productivity by defending against weeds, were cheaper than toxic sprays, and there was no risk of goat flu affecting the tourism industry, he said. "We are aware that three years of drought has severely depleted sheep and beef populations, so what better time to float the goat?" If the purchaser already had enough goats, Mitsubishi would supply a no-goat package including a five-year/100,000km extended warranty, five free warrant of fitness inspections, 5000km road user charges, five years of roadside assistance and $500 of genuine or approved Triton accessories.
Lotuss reborn Esprit gets V10 power Two-seater targets R8 with stunning look and an engine shared with the imminent Lexus LF-A A legendary Lotus is returning its the new Esprit! The dust has only just settled on the stunning Evora, but already the Norfolk firm is setting its sights even higher. And our exclusive pictures show how the reborn supercar will take shape. The new mid-engined model revives a badge that was used on the original Lotus flagship between 1976 and 2004. And with a choice of six, eight and 10-cylinder powerplants, it will take the fight to the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo, as well as Audis storming R8 V10. Lotuss special relationship with Toyota has been well documented the Japanese manufacturer already supplies engines for the Elise, Exige and 2-Eleven, plus the Evora. Our sources have revealed that the partnership will step up a gear for the Esprit. Toyotas luxury arm, Lexus, will be called on to provide a pair of high-power engines. The entry-level Esprit will be equipped with a tuned version of the Evoras 3.5-litre V6, producing around 300bhp, while a mid-range model gets the 414bhp 5.0-litre V8 from the Lexus IS F. But taking the new Lotus into the big league will be the earth-shattering 550bhp 4.8-litre V10 from the upcoming LF-A supercar. Mated to a six-speed semi-automatic paddleshift transmission, this unit should provide the Esprit with performance to match some of the fastest cars on the planet. A 0-60mph sprint time of less than four seconds is expected, and judging by pre-production testing of the LF-A (see Issue 1,066), the car is likely to hit a top speed in excess of 200mph. Underpinning the model will be a wider and longer version of the Evoras rear-wheel-drive platform. This should ensure the handling is worthy of the Esprit name. The wedge-like profile clearly takes cues from Giorgetto Giugiaros 1976 design a car made famous by 1977s James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me. But a combination of creases and curves is used to provide the modern-day Esprit with a muscular and aggressive stance on the road. Inside, the newcomer will build on the style of the Evoras leather-clad cabin so its expected to be the most luxurious interior Lotus has ever designed, a must if the car is to tempt customers away from more established supercar manufacturers. Prices are likely to start from around £75,000 for the entry-level car, and rise to £150,000 for the V10. Well have to wait until at least 2012 for the Esprits official debut, though. Lotus wont embark on final development until the Evora is making a consistent profit. But by adding the new car to the line-up, total production at the firms Hethel plant could reach 4,000-5,000 models annually. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/236575/lotuss_reborn_esprit_gets_v10_power.html Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
