A bit of a technical question: While I love my Golf I absolutely hate the stop / start system. It drives me completely bonkers that it doesn’t remember me turning it off, and I have to do it every time I start the car. Even then half the time it takes many presses of the button before it realises that I actually want to disable the system, and when I do forget it makes me want to beat the crap out of it with a tree branch - Basil Fawlty style - the first time I stop at an intersection. I’ve done some research on the VW forums and it seems it’s fairly easy to permanently disable it, but you need to get into the CAN system and change a couple of parameters. Does anyone know what I would need to buy to be able to do this? I know I could take it to a mechanic who may be prepared to do it but I thought if it was fairly cheap and simple to buy the stuff it might be worth having at home anyway.
