Yes, you can access both crank sensors with the engine in the car. You get access to them from underneath.

Yes, the crank sensors can give you problems through the entire rpm range. The boot Jeff is referring to is the female plug coming off the wiring loom. I had this very problem with my car. You want to make sure the 1) the connections are clean, and 2) that the wires under the rubber boot are not broken.

Be sure to do the same check for the connections on the Mass Air Flow Sensors.

I don't remember you say if you pulled the engine codes or not. So, you need to pull the engine code. Run a search of the archive to find the steps, and be sure to pull them while the engine is ON and idling. If indeed you have a problem with a cranks sensor it will give you a code for it. Again, when you are pulling the codes make sure that the engine is ON and idling. If it is not on you will get a false crank sensor code, and you don't want any false codes.

    CRUD!!!!

I just saw where you are located. The Euro cars didn't come with the button next to the Motronic ecu to be able to pull the codes yourself.

Say guys. Did we ever figure out if you could by the attachment for the button and hook it up on the Euro models ecu???????

Yup. They need the cable and button, plus they have to install the bulbs behind the CELs in the dash.

Do that and then the Euro guys can pull the codes on the M2.7 versions.
