    Hi,

Can someone tell me how to get to the battery on a 348 TB? I believe it is in the front of the car because it's not where the manual says it should be in the back. I've read a few threads, but have not seen any instructions (or photos) on how to get to it?

    Thanks,

It's a 92 from your profile, so it's probably in the engine bay. It can be a little tricky to find it the first time - have you checked the very back left-hand corner of the engine bay and is there an aluminum panel (just in front of the tail light pod)? If so, remove the panel (two knobs/screws) and the battery is tucked under there.

That was what I thought, but the only thing on the left hand side rear is the antenna for the radio and its clear ligt down to the ground below that.

    Hi,

I just went and looked again. There's nothing between the antenna and the bumper. This is a Speciale and is actually a 92 1/2 so it may be up front. I just don't know how to get to it.

Well I found it and can confirm that it is in front of the left fron tire. Next question - can I charge the battery without putting the connectors on the battery? Is there a place near the engine that I can figure out which is positive and negative? Pictures would be helpful.

    Thanks

    Yes you can.

If you stand at the back of the car, theres a flap on the right which covers one terminal (the + terminal I think). Below that, there's a bolt sticking out where you connect the other clip.

DOH! You need to be specific next time dude. The SS cars are different, like you already knew that though. :p

Access the battery from the driver's side wheel well. Remove the tire first. :D

As for charging it, look on the passenger's side of the engine bay in front of the oil sump. You will see a horizontal block covered with a plastic cover. This is your energy bar (my term :p). Flip up the cover. It looks like a some metal pegs on top of a metallic bar. This is your positive. Ground is a convenient peg just below the bar attached to the frame.

Thanks very much to everyone. The battery is only 2 years old, but the weather in Chicago and my not driving it for a while (did I mention the ticket for doing 107.... in a 55) has probably caused the drain. I'll charge it up later this week and let you know how it works.

    Thanks again,

You can also use a battery tender that plugs into the cigarette lighter inside the car. Very convenient.
