If your familiar with Colorado please read.... This young man worked next door to my office here in RI over the summer at a local business as a tour guide.... He has gone missing recently. Family is offering 5K for reward and I will personally match that with another 5K if someone offers any leads, tips, info, ideas or other that leads to his safe return.

I know this forum is a pretty connected place with people all over the world. Great for sharing our passion on cars.... Hoping that it may also help in leading to the return of a son, brother and all around nice guy to his family.....

Thanks all for reading this... very tragic and praying it ends well...I have no clue about this area, if its a bad part of town, if others have gone missing over the years or other. Originally from Boston myself .....

This is a mystery. There are no bad parts to Aspen-Snowmass. It's all ritzy. Hope it ends well.

I am so sorry to hear of this. I will put my feelers out to my Colorado family. I just have a strange feeling that he may have accidentally driven off a road and into a canyon. Not too tough to conceive of out there. Did he have a car? Did they find it? Was he riding with anyone?

FYI - George's picture has been posted all over the valley since he became missing. A massive amount of investigative hours have been put in to date. His early exit that evening from a local bus headed back to his home in Snowmass Village was recorded and the surrounding areas have been searched by foot, dog and helicopter. Still nothing found yet which, hopefully, is a good sign. Not much snow the last week or so, so that helps as well. Seems like a responsible young man, so we're all hoping and praying for his safe return.

Thanks for the notes back... his family has flown to the area to try and assist in the search.

He was on foot, a lady interviewed at the but stop said she had a conversation although brief with him.....he mentioned he had gotten off at the wrong bus stop and asked for a ride to where he was staying a few miles up the road.. she responded by telling him she did not have a car. That was the last sighting of George... and where his sent left off based on the hounds/investigators...

He is really a kind guy, always a smile on his face. I did not know him as well as others but saw/interacted with him daily (from a hello to a light conversation about how his week end was) over the summer as my office was next door and I own the building where he was employed as a Segway tour guide here in Newport RI. Always a respectful guy and again a good way about him.

He was excited about the move to Colorado and his job as ski lift worker....
This is such a tragic story... as a father myself I can not even begin to understand what his family is going through....

Please spread the word to anyone and everyone you know. The car forums for me are my only connection to this area as I am 100X of miles away...but figured I would try..

F bear, sounds like your from the area, has media coverage out there been strong about this? I believe the weather was minus 12 that night...but not any snow as you noted....

thanks all will will keep you all posted on any developments and once again thank you for the help, support and prayers for this young guy....

If Mountain Search and Rescue is using tracking dogs, that's about as good as one can expect. They're highly professional, competent and experienced. Mountain police departments aren't necessarily well-prepared to deal with missing persons or other serious crimes. Mostly, they spend their time doing DUI and traffic enforcement, domestic disturbances and minor drug offenses. I'm not suggesting that they're incompetent. Merely, perhaps, unprepared to deal with complex issues that arise infrequently for them. As such, I'm glad that other law enforcement agencies are involved. At least the family will know that there's no apathy contributing.

Hopefully, this is nothing serious, but the longer it gets drawn out, the less likelihood of a good outcome. The weather is harsh (especially at this time of year), and if he's out in it, unless he's prepared, it's difficult to imagine a happy ending. Thoughts are with the family for a good result, though.

Mick-- that pretty much says it to this point. The sheriff's offfice even closed the main road into town for over an hour last week to throughly search the roadside to no effect. If you've ever been here in the winter, you can imagine what a traffic snarl that caused, but I'm sure no one objected. Going out again this pm with my dog to search locally, but as the possible area is now expanded to several hundred square miles or so ( bus runs 60 miles north and west at its longest point), it's a tough search; Many folks are out looking, so we're trying. thanks all for your replies.... such a tragic situation.

Every day that passes the outcome looks more grim, but many are holding out hope.

From what I hear the police, rangers, locals have been so supportive and helpful etc...

As I hear more will update, thanks again for the help + support.... would be awesome to get this kid back to his family.

    Thanks for reading....

I just saw the news. I am guessing he climbed under a bridge to sleep and froze to death. Very sad.

Very tragic...lots of speculation. Sleeping under is not one theory at this point..

This is a new bridge with a pedestrian lane for walking.... built next to "the old bridge".... how close next to? 11' inches with a gap 11' wide leading to a 100ft drop..... old bridge never removed...

Many things could have happened, but one theory is this - Not being a local George may not have been aware of the pedestrian side available only on one side of the bridge. (plus it was dark) So was walking on opposite side, cars passing possibly coming close, looked to his side and see's a flat bridge...same level as the new bridge he is walking on but empty and no cars leading in same direction he is going.... in the dark almost looks connected. Sits on guard rail and goes to step onto the other (old) bridge, slides off and through the gap....

Will see what the final release is after Police finish investigations... wake this week end, I plan to try to attend; as noted I did not know George as well as many but the bit I did can tell everyone he was a good person..and a kind soul.....

    RIP

We all hate that it happened like this.

I really enjoy my time alone in the mountains in winter, but it's always possible for things to go terribly wrong......
