This car was restored by the new owner, got a very nice paint job (the car was original in red!) and new leather interior (original: black), restored wire-wheels by Borrani. And then this: when the motor was out while getting an overhaul, the owner refused to spend 5,000 Euros more for cleaning and detailing the engine-bay incl. motor etc.!!! In looking at the engine compartment and interior pictures a couple of things come to mind: 1. I own AM109.102, a 1964 (early) car... The curved heat shield with the foam on top between the exhaust manifold and the brake fluid reservoirs, was this standard, or did this come later?.... I know my car does not have it and I don't recall seeing this in the parts manual... Any thoughts or opinions?? 2. The wiper motor is external to the firewall and appears to be of a newer vintage than what I found in my car.. Any thoughts or opinions here?? 3. What is that 'thing' just in front of the brake fluid reservoirs? I can't tell and I'm pretty sure there wasn't one on mine... 4. The interior is very similar to mine, except for the plastic piece on the console, this must have been added later by some owner.... 5. I wonder if this is a 4 or 5 dash switch car? Anyway, just some food for thought... There has not been much discussion on Mistrals on this forum as of late.... Mike D.
Also, just noticed... Shouldn't there be a chrome trim ring around the shifter? Was this standard or not? The grab bar surrounding the glove box, was this standard or not? Mine did not have it and the covering on the dash appears to be original.... Mike D.

1. The shield probably got added after owners complained about the brake master cylinder failing. My 1965 Mistral had it, so does the 1968. 2. I've never seen the wiper motor located there ... but it could be original. 3. Aftermarket electric windshield washer motor. The original was a foot activated manual pump. 4. Plastic piece appears to have been added later for much needed storage area. Later cars had a redesigned center console which provided for some storage area. This car is missing the chrome trim on the bottom of the shifter. Odd restoration. Some things seem to be nicely done while others could use attention. Mistrals do not get the credit they deserve. It is an all aluminum car (at least on the coupes ... spyder are 60% alum, 40% steel), shortest wheel base of all the 60's and 70's Maserati GT cars, true 2 seater (not a 2+2), great engine, and excellent build quality and attention to details by Frua. I also Have an early Mistral # 109374. It does have the curved heat shield with the foam on top. 2. I have the same wiper motor and it is located in the same spot as the picture. This is a Magnet Marelli unit. I do not believe it is related to later cars. With Maserati it is what was in the parts bin at the time of need. 3. I do have a windsheild washer but it is located nearer the front of the car on the drivers side 4. I agree the plastic part appears to have been added. I have never seen one before. The later cars had a leather one in the same position 5. From the picture I believe this is a 4 switch car. Mine is 4 switch 6. I do not believe the chrome ring is missing. My car has the original interior and does not have the chrome ring. I believe the chrome ring is related to later cars with the S-20 gearbox. The early cars had the S-17 &. My car does have the grab bar. You should be able to tell if your car had one since the holes would be in the dash and may be covered. The grab bar is shown in the parts manual
