I believe the Miura SV was the Rod Stewart yellow/blue car. If I recall the same car sold for $122k in 2002. Always thought that was a nice example. I remeber hearing the the ceiling had heel marks on it
Rod Stewart's SV was black. It is now at Fantasy Junction after having been restored. Now a dark blue. He did own a yellow S.
Think you might be wrong. Says it was this yellow SV #4818. Car that just sold above. Rod's ownership probably pushed the price up. http://www.sportscarmarket.com/car-reviews/etceterini/1282-1972-lamborghini-miura-sv http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/b9ecbfae#/b9ecbfae/186
I was watching the auction on-line, (lots of delays in transmitting) The positioning of the car may have hurt it. It was 2 lots before the star of the show the James Bond Goldfinger DB5 and the next lot after a Ferrari 365 California Spyder that had a long draw out block time to sell at over 1 mil US. The Islero came up next with the room still buzzing from the California Spyder sale. It opened strong at 50k pounds jumped up into the 90k range then died and was off the block*with 1/8 the*time that the California had, the auctioneer didn't seem to have worked that hard to get more bids. The room was probably getting*edgy waiting on the*Goldfinger car. * When the Goldfinger car did hit the block, big build up with Bond music and*video you could see the excitement in the room. First bid*2.5 mil pounds blows just about everyone out of the game.*Then a long struggle*for another bid*to 2.6.*after that no more bids. Talk about anticlimactic.
Why so low for the LP400? Anyone know?
Curious as well...seems very very in-exspensive for the car..? Maybe some hidden issues that got out about it..?>
Why so low for the LP400? Anyone know?
that translates into around $260,000. sounds to me like real money not the crazy asking prices like $400.000.+ like the place in Fla. askind $450,000 and up
He is right. You are both right. Rod Stewart kept 4866 in Beverly Hills and 4818 in London. He had 2 (why not?). In stating: "If I recall the same car sold for $122k in 2002" you are right. But when you state: "Always thought that was a nice example" I should point out that when it sold for $122k it was not a particularly nice example. I wrote the SCM analysis in the link you post, after inspecting it. It needed a proper restoration at that point. It was subsequently restored and is now a nice example.
Dont know, but it strikes me that the reason is that nobody wanted a RHD LP400 that night. On the other hand at least 2 people really really wanted a RHD Miura SV that night. With auctions its kind of luck of the draw, and sometimes cars sell for above market (like the SV), or below market (like the LP400). This is a classic illustration of the volatility of the auction situation, and a reminder why auction sales prices do not necessarily mirror the market. The owner of that LP400 cannot be very happy, but obviously he had to let it go. After auction fees he got a ridiculously low number for a LP400..
Yeah, i really feel pitty for him, spectacular car imo. But thats the game you play with auctions, some win some loose.
i remember we both thought that LP400 was not likely to go for top money being an RHD on auction and given the smaller amount of buyers at the event (or at the phone) for such a car it went for a very low price (a bargain for the buyer)
I was at the auction last night, both the SV and the LP 400 are owned by the same collector,I used to own the LP 400 and was involved with the sale of the SV when he brought it,there is no doubt the LP 400 underperformed but he did very well out of the SV which made up for it,it seems all the Lamborghini on offer are staying in the UK including the SVJ,the auction was very well attended and the prices achieved were very good considering the UK is meant to be in a recession, there is alot of new money going into older cars at the moment. I think the feeling that the SVJ was somewhat a "Continuation" not originally produced as one kept the price down. Does the original chassis of the original SVJ still exist or was it destroyed?
The original Jota crashed at a reported 240kph and burned to the ground. Pics of the burned remains exist. It is possible the badly mangled chassis sits somewhere... Image Unavailable, Please Login
