I have known of your passion, interest and vast knowledge of Miuras, and in particular the SV, for quite some time. To have owned 5 SVs, and the ones you have owned are very important cars, is quite astonishing. The pleasure you must have felt in owning these cars must have been immense but it must also have been extremely painfull to have let go of any one of these cars as I know we sometimes must. You've played a major role in satisfying and propelling people's hunger for Miura knowledge and sharing your enthusiasm for the car and for that I take my hat off to you and thank you.

Thank you very much for your kind words. We have been very fortunate indeed. My preference for a 'revolving' garage is exactly what lead me into this business. The Miura has caused my wife & I to meet many people, the vast majority of them great. Fortunately, we have some great clients, so most of the cars exist today in good hands, and we have no regrets. Thank you for bringing up the topic.

Thanks, Joe. Just edited my post to say that you've also propelled people's interest and hunger for Miura knowledge too.

I'm sure you're right, Sab. I have a 1/43 Legend Miura which looks very similar but perhaps it's not as good. I think it may have been a lot cheaper but perhaps I just got a bargain. Yes, please let me know if you come across a white Auto Art SV.

I have the Auto Art bianco/gold model and it's highly recommendable

Is it safe to say this Auto Art is a replica of Elton John's Car ?

    Not necessarily.

For example, it could just as likely be a representation of 4822, The Last Miura Built, also Bianco with Nero, in Right-hand-drive guise.

I've got both the Kyosho and the AUTOart SV. The Kyosho is better (better shape, photoetched badges, better wheels, extra details like seatbelts and Michelin tires) and would be almost perfect apart from the rear wheel issue.

Whoever sculpted the AUTOart didn't quite get the shape dead on - which I believe Kyosho did.

The most accurate representation of the car in 1/18 is therefore the Kyosho P400 and S, which dont have the rear track issues.

The wheels are a bit better positioned on the AUTOart but still not perfect - I took mine apart and re positioned the wheels, widening the rear track. Sadly I can't get the wheels off the Kyosho to perform the same fix.

Kyosho on left, modded AUTOart on the right:

It's a shame they can't get the way the wheels fill out the arches right on the SV. This is very important on an SV and it must be to you as well as you wouldn't have gone to the trouble of repositioning those on your Auto Art otherwise and it looks much better for it. Tires on the SV were Pirelli with HS CN12 on the rear.

you forgot to mention Kyosho reproduced accurately the gas cap under the grill
but then Again Kyosho doesn't offer BIANCO whereas Auto Art does ...

which is a shame considering the world is full of red ordinary cars

speaking of filling Gas under the grill
never seen this old lovely period picture before

I saw this too and the car was described as a P400S. Is this the SV that was originally lime green UK registration JLL 838K ex Ron Stern (later Simon Kidston) or the SV that was auctioned recently?

No, this car is a P400S, the 458th Miura built, made to look like an SV. It is chassis number #4329 fitted with engine #30456.

FWIW this car was completed on January the 20th 1970.

Indeed it was originally green, and last I checked it had the UK-registration WPU 100 on it.

Thanks, Joe. I think I may have seen this car in a Central London car showroom a few years ago not far from Bond Street.

I don't know if the SV conversion was done at Sant Agata or not, or when it was done.

You know lots, Joe. When were the factory doing SV conversions? Would the changes just have been SV body conversions or would they go as far as to split the engine and gearbox? The chassis would have had to have been changed for the thicker gauge steel as well as lots of other detail things as you well know. Would the factory allow an SV badge on a car that's a S underneath?

The factory fully upgraded a few cars from P400 and P400S to SV in the production period. After that it was mostly selling hoods & wheels to make earlier cars look like later ones.

In that period the factory allowed a lot of things, the aforementioned included :)

Does one of the original Miura prototypes still exist with the rear glass window and is it still in that form?

The first prototype, chassis number 0509, was destroyed. Not sure if that was the car with the clear rear window - I think it was though

Thanks for that. I googled Miura 0509 and found the link above. I never noticed the 4 exhausts on that car before. I see they later fitted the car with louvres.

Just one car with the Plexiglas rear hood cover, 0502. Although it was discarded in favor of the famed "Venetian Blinds" we know on all Miuras..
