If I read correctly the two letter codes were only issued before 1963. After this the two letter code denoting the area was always preceded by a third letter.

"Here's the full list of all the 2 letter area codes issued to vehicles first registered between 1903 and 2001 in the United Kingdom. These codes are (except before 1963) always issued with a preceding serial letter e.g. Y723YYX (area code is YX)."

Trade plates have two letters and the three digit number precedes the letters. Although the letters are not red this seems to fit the description of a trade plate. Here is the related text....

"Trade plates use the normal UK font but usually display red letters on a white background. They have three numbers starting from
001, and then a two letter area code of the VRO (vehicle registration office) as in pre September 2001 plates. Trade plates are carried
by vehicles which are not being currently taxed, and are used by dealers and manufacturers. These plates can be moved from one
vehicle to another which is why they are often displayed in the windscreen or hung from the vehicle rather than being permanently
    fixed."

I think the mystery car in the picture is c/n 4812, the owner of which kindly contacted me today and told me that he had been informed that his is the only RHD SV without air conditioning. The car in the pic looks like it doesn't have a/c so there we are, c/n 4812 with reg. JLL 838K.

The closest I'm ever going to get to owning a Miura. I've bought the 1:12 from Kyosho.
This is easily the best representation of the car yet with some very fine details (for example the 'Carrelo' name can be read on the headlamps, likewise 'Bendix' is etched into the fuel pump). And Kyosho have corrected the rear wheel issue that spoils their otherwise excellent 1:18 version. My only complaint is the lack of properly branded tires.

Here's a picture I thought everyone might like. Back in the sixties my father in law was a staff photographer for Harrah's lake Tahoe. This pic is taken at Tahoe airport. pretty cool---

Are those the remnants of a shattered driver's side door window glass?

I think you might be right. From his I Spy days. Makes sense, he played Harrahs in Reno and he was a friend of Bill Harrahs. Did not know he owned a Miura though (if that's him & this car was his), but again its entirely possible. FWIW he still has the Ferrari 288 GTO & F40 he bought new..

Yes, that is Bill Cosby. No, i don't think the door glass is broken, just a strange reflection.
The car could be Cosby's or it might be a car from Harrahs collection? I'm not sure. My father-in-law does not really remember if the car was Cosby's.
I have looked at the original photo with a magnifying glass carefully, I can not say what the "chrome" bar is, I'm betting it's a flaw in the processing of the original photo. Its a great period photo none-the-less...

Probably frayed window felt. I've seen a few Miura's with that "option".

I think its just snow and ice from rolling down the window built Up on the rubber .
If it was his it would raise that cars history value!
Surely someone here knows how to ask him?

I bet the Miura was his. The Cobra had a plaque installed that said: "Faster than anything Steve Mc Queen owns" (or words to that effect), marking their friendly car-guy rivallry.

I'm wondering if that chrome bar is some sort of parking sensor or aerial. There appears to be a black rubber grommet around the car's bodywork so it's got to be on the car. The photo, given its age, looks very good quality.
