Had someone PM me about this..His car is in the shop getting a major service as well as other work to include replacing valve guides. The mechanic told him a few of the bronze guides were in perfect conditon and he was going to replace the questionable ones only..I told him I thought it was a mistake---As long as he is in there--replace them all with steel..I am not a mechanic so is my suggestion on par???

Not a mechanic either, but to me your advice seems right as I imagine there would be balance issues if he doesn't.

Replace them all while you're in there. If some have gotten bad already, when will the others go? Don't take the chance. Call Ricambi and get the manganese bronze guides, better choice than the factory replacements.

I would say at least replace all of the exhaust guides. Most likely he has low compression. I have seen cracked exhaust valves from bad exhaust guides. It is in part due to the valve not seating properly on the seat. thus making the valve a nice airgap (hotspot) during combustion. Intakes are not as crucial as the do not retain as much heat from combustion. Remember the intakes get a nice cool air fuel mixture while the exhaust is nothing but flames by the guides. Bronze has no chance with heat over time. Good luck to him.
