I think they should not build LUXURY SUV's with this much gusto. I hope people don't buy any of these, as the recent surveys are showing that the constant increase in the price of oil IS in fact changing buyer's and driver's habits.
It does seem kinda rediculous when the base V6 is doing 0-60 in the 7 second range. Nice to see that AMG isn't getting at all rusty though. Here's a group that seems to have no prejudice for N/A, Turbo or S/C. Everything they build is just insanely potent.
I can hardly wait until we get one into the dealership. With the new S-class, R-class, and assorted AMG models coming out, the next year will be a busy one for Merc dealers.
I have to admit that is a freakin beast of a motor. And NA is just icing on the cake! I doubt it can off road nearly as well as the Porsche but who actually does that with them anyway? Considering I have driven the Cayenne Turbo (It has sick amounts of acceleration for a SUV) this should be redicuous. And forget about gas. You know that when you buy one of these, you just don't care!!! I say keep the horsepower war thriving!
Ah, but will it handle though? The really cool thing about the X5 and the Cayenne is that they weren't afraid to take onramps at 100mph+. The W163 ML55 didn't feel anything like that..
Tony, you know as well as I do that sometimes we post just to add a post to our total count. It's only natural.
They did this because more impressive torque of the 5.5L supercharged engine would kill the weaker 7-speed transmission they wanted to use.
