I enjoy hockey for the same reason. You get 1 hour of play that takes 2.5 hours of your life. Its compressed and actually more enjoyable because its less boring.

Traditionalists don't understand its a new world. The game is not being damaged. Its just evolving to a better place.

not even evolving. devolving back into what it used to be in its heyday. never had batters taking 5 min every at bat to adjust equipment. ball was put in play and resulted in action. no one wants to watch 5 hrs walks, strikeouts, homers with 10 relief pitchers. and next thing to get rid of is relief pitchers wasting time to warm up on mound. just get in and pitch

There are some clunky parts still. I don't think they have instant replay down pat. Takes too long. Hockey really restricts what is reviewable and gets to a decision pretty quickly, even judgement calls like goal tender interference. But I bet in 1/2 of the NHL games there is no instant replay used at all and almost never twice in a game.

Last year I saw one time it took 10 minutes to determine a stolen base or not. Just wasted time. They need to set up special cameras just for that and not use broadcast feeds.

They did change instant replay. Manager has to make immediate challenge without time to review play 1st. Football needs that too

    MLB screwed up.

It ALWAYS started with a Cinci Reds day game, but no more.

They also saw fit to send the Angels TO Oakland to start.
If they were going to make changes, they COULD have had the Angels open
with a day game/series at home, featuring Shohei Ohtani, but nooo.

Dodgers beat the Diamondbacks in a pretty normal game of 7-2. I watched on TV (I recorded it). Total time was 2:45 which was pretty good given how much scoring. I'm guessing the same game last year would have been 45 minutes longer.

I think it really helps that the action doesn't really stop very often in hockey. Even in basketball, which is fast paced and action packed, the constant stoppage of play is kind of annoying and there doesn't seem to be nearly as much of that in hockey. Glad to see MLB adjust things to shorten the games. It was getting out of hand.

Here's what it's like to be a Phillies fan: I get back from walking the dog yesterday, remember the Phils are on TV, and I turn the game on. THE FIRST PITCH I SEE is Nola giving up a 3 run dinger.

The irony is that Nola and DeGrom both finished their stints with the same horrid ERA: 12.27! Neither was involved in the decision, but at least DeGrom struck out 7 in his fairly short stint.

Aaron Judge picked up where he left off. He hit the second pitch that he saw 422 feet.

Yeah, and Phils reliever Soto came in after Nola and promptly surrendered 3 runs without getting an out...resulting in his 2023 ERA being infinity. Welcome to New Ulm (baseball trivia fans will get this)

    Soto is still pitching?
He was a reliever for the Reds back in the 80's, surprised he is still around....

    (Mario Soto, LOL.... I'm kidding)

The Tampa Bay Rays are now 20-3, and 14-0 at home. How many people saw that last game? A little over 10,000 in a 25,000 seat stadium. A metro area that supports what is currently the best team in baseball so poorly doesn't deserve to have a team!

Drive across to Miami, Jim, and it's even worse (of course, Marlins have stunk forever). Drive up to Jax in NFL football season, nobody home. Miami doesn't support their NHL franchise either, but the Bolts are a big deal and sell out that goofy building. You give Philly a 20-3 baseball team and you'd be paying $ 200 for a bleacher seat on a Tuesday night.
