The last thread got me wondering.........so I'm going to face the ridicule of the group. I bought some Mobil 1 15W-50 for my 78 308 GTS because I thought the synthetic would be better, and 15W-50 was the closest they had to the 10W-50 suggested by the owner's manual. I was planning to pour it in tomorrow...............Am I off base??

Nope, it will work fine. You might even consider 0W-40.

That's what I use in my QV most of the time (and I abuse my car, it's boosted and making over 500hp).... when I find it I perfer castol 5W50, but the 15w50 seems just fine.

If you are down south stay with the 15w50 Mobile 1

Do not go to 0w40 if you are in warm climates or your cams will not survive

I have over 7,000 miles on my 575 Maranello and run 0W-20 Mobil 1. This is in Florida. I have run constant oil analysis and there is no indication of any trouble, in fact wear metals are if anything, low.

That's what I've been using for a couple of years now. I changed ever since the local Agip retailers were gouging us here in Montreal. (13$ per liter compared with 30$ for 4.5 liters of Mobil at Walmart).

The archives have tons of info on this subject as it has been discussed often. For the record, in my 77 308 GTB I run Mobil 1 0W 40 with NO leaks or increased consumption. The car starts easier and revs more freely. Oil pressure is great too. Remember that your owners manual is over 25 years old and oils have come a LONG way since then.
