I'll have to look back to see if we had a thread about mods in the Asia forum. I would like to sign one person up to be a mod. It should be a long time active user in this forum. They should have a very balanced and fair perspective on participating in this community.

Please use this thread to talk out recommendations.

    Thanks,
    rob

    Hi Rob,
I'll recommend Lung from Singapore. Rosso subscribed, long time multi Ferraris & Maseratis owner. He is experienced, fair & well travelled. + Logs in wherever he goes ;)

Zertec=Clive, Ferrari redesigner & a practising lawyer to boot!

Maybe someone from Thailand as well?

Asia Forums are largely self moderated places, having one chosen out of many would only irked the rest as this is after part of competitive nature of Asians.

To find one who is inherently unbiased is difficult, so far I have not seen anyone on this forum that I can safely say is in this category, again not referring to any segment in particular, just the nature of Asian values and pecking order.

In the advent any candidates are chosen here, Rob you have to really look back at all the posts of the individual to see if he has ever acted emotionally or in any manner unbecoming of a moderator.

At the end of the day, there are many users of Asia Forums, many come many go, most are just occasional visitors and the handful of regulars are just a drop in the overall sceneary.

Ultimately its your board, but just my 2 cents, Asia forums has survived for a long time without any mod, it should continue that way.

One has to understand the political landscape in Asia, choosing a mod from any Asian country will serve up more discord in the long run, honestly who from Singapore wants to be "bossed" around by a Malaysian, or who from Hongkong would like to be "bossed" around by a taiwanese?

This is not Europe or America. Its a different culture altogether and its a very competitive one at that. One reason why there are many Ferraris in Asia even when the average cost of owning one is literally several times higher than that of America/Europe.

Think abt it...the potential mess and subsequent attrition of silently disgruntled guests and members alike.

    Hi Rob,

I agree with Jon with considering Lung to be a mod and followed closely by Jon Wijaya himself. Both being active members of the most active thread in the Asia Forum. However I do find Jon currently to be more active in posting.

Seen quite a few run-away threads here. Too much airing of dirty laundry to the rest of the world.

As far as being "bossed" around by other nationalities, I question as to whether that is the general perspective, or that of the poster?

I would like to think that someone who owns, or aspires to own, a Ferrari is above all that. We share a passion together. Isn't that enough? If it's competition someone is after, go to the track. A forum is a virtual community - focused more on collaboration rather than competition.

And when we do have a Mod, can we please, please, please tell people to start new threads so that it's easier for the rest of us to read?

Lastly, correct me if I'm wrong, but the idea of a Mod is to "censor" unwelcome posts, not "police" every single posts. Kinda like seeking forgiveness rather than permission. Just in case someone's worried about their Freedom of Speech.

    Just my two (Malaysian/American/Singaporean) cents...

    Rezal

Thanks Raze but NO, I am not worthy & technically not right since I'm always in the "dark-side" of Porsche. I maybe active but my knowledge, skills & temper is far below many here. I'm quite happy as is to contribute pictures here.

I would second Tifosi66 from Malaysia but he unfortunately went MIA in Dalian, China.

The Thais are a bunch of nice guys too & a few owns couple of nice cars.

The Taiwanese, HongKongers, Indonesians, Filipinos would be nice but most are a quiet lot. OK don't flame me :)

The Japanese would be superb as they are often the most passionate lot when it comes to hobbies but we hear little of them here. I'm quite sure they are the single nation with the most valuable collectibles of any kind in Asia.

IMHO, Lung from Singapore is undisputed champ. He has good relationship with the local authorised dealer, visited factory & Pilota trained. Has good international relationships with other owners & obviously love food too. So he has my vote.

It's a pity many nice Singapore "oldtimers" have gone into lurker mode because of "it" as quite a few of them are well suited for the job as well.

Hello, we humans have been @ war with one another since eons ago, I see little difference between countries, races or religion.

Most of us wants peace like we do here & I can safely say majority of the "genuine" chatters here cross bounderies to embrace the "Ferrari brotherhood" even with non owners. It's a fact that many of us help one another in Fchat globally & if you guys can venture into other threads to see.

Many owners from US, Australia & Europe helped me when my F348 was down & I gladly share the knowledge with others. Some of us even helped sourced for parts, food, anything you name it :)

We're not playing politics here. Nobody's bossing anybody, we're just helping everybody.

Lung (lung7707) or Jon (SFchallenge) both have my vote! They are both frequent chatters here, experienced as they have been on asia thread for quite some time.

They are both fair when judging and are passion for Ferrari regardless whether they are online, offline or in their dreams. In real life, both are kind hearted, generous and not to mention, gentlemen.

whoever said about that bossy thing is really silly. this is just a forum. no politics here. i don't give a damn who or from where the Mod is from. as long as the person is fair, etc etc, and we'll play by the rules.

simple as that. and yes Rob, we do need a Mod here. to sort things out and to keep things in line.

So far all the mods recommended come from Singapore. Would be better to have a look at the logs to see who is the most suitable Rob. After all, every suggestion is a preference, a preference that might not reflect on the consensus of the majority. The low response to this thread is a clear indication of our "not dirtying our hands" culture.

Most wealthy asian prefer to be served rather then to serve.

well, i don't mind helping the forum a bit here and there. problem is, i don't own a Ferrari, and i don't have a credit card to subscribe. ;)

having said that, this is by far the best forum i've ever been too. the atmosphere here is great and everyone treats each other with lots of respect.

Coming from Asian countries like ours, the word "moderate" is intepreted differently from that of western cultures.

Looking at how most Asian goverments (no matter how democratic they may seem) most are authoritian in some manner. Freedom of speech will be severly affected should an Asian Mod be chosen, because to us,

Moderation= censor, delete, warn and ban for any thing beyond the norms or any ideas or arguments that deviate away from conventional thinking. Its not an individual's fault but that is the kind of enviroment most of us grew up in, there is never 100% freedom of speech. (not even close)

The reason what this asia forum has been successful so far is because it has been taken care of by Rob and Wayne who come in only when things get really out of hand. Otherwise its really been self moderation, which i think this current arrangement is still the best practise.

Again here, we can see the general ideology, what I ask is "unwelcome posts" it is subjective from individual to individual, open to intepretation, thats why I prefer wester mods then Asian mods as their threshold is higher and that will ensure that the flavor of this forum is maintained.

By all means we can have a moderator from anywhere as long as he is well respected, free to look into us & chosen by Rob.

Now if only our Cow-peh can speak so much common sense all the time & keep the foul mouth to himself, we wouldn't have a problem do we? BTW, I wasn't the one who got you banned last time, maybe one of the many you stepped upon? A little reflection will be useful.

IMO, there still should be a Mod here. lets face facts, the forum will be growing and growing. we need someone to control things, like it or not.

IMO, the best persons here is Tifosi66, as well as Fengtau. Fengtau because he has a lot of Ferrari expererince, and he has drive tonnes of Ferrari, and he sure knows helluva lot of things.

i do agree with the post above. Rob, feel free to look into any or each of us before u make a decision. it's your call.

All you will get is just access to the moderator control panel, not the admin panel. Also depends what plugins this site is using. I know cause I have the software too.

Hi Theera, glad to see you here & please feel free to advise or recommend. I don't see a big deal with or without moderators since most of us are thinking adults except a few bad eggs that appears once a while & that happens not just in Fchat.

What does a moderator do anyway? Why are some people so sensitive over it? Let's have a look @ this when everyone of us signed in for the first time which I frankly never read before either.
