Hello i just need some opinions here.
If a car is modded, ie supercharger, moton suspensions, internal engine work, aftermarket wheels, etc....
Will the insurance company still insure such a beast, the car i'm talking about has close to 1000HP to the crank...Or will they say it's more of a track minded car and will stay away from it.

Granted my driving history should be clean now haaaaaaaaa

    Just curious.... :)

Why not ?.........it will just come at a significant price, assuming you answer honestly about modifications when they ask, as omitting that part may likely void any coverage if you pile into someone else and they discover it when you make the claim and/or the other party sues you.

Here in Alberta (for example) you cannot be denied insurance and can get coverage thru the government run facility program for pretty much anything. But it costs........

huh?@??@?@ did you find something?????????? I've never had an insurance company ask me if my car or customers cars were modded but I guess if you want to re-coup the money if something happened then you'll have to be honest but this is only going to happen if you have receipts for parts and labour right?

It is a standard question out here on every policy.......IIRC it goes something like this......"has the vehicle been modified in any way from the original equipment specifiations for increased performance".........

I havent had to do it in a while. But here in Ontario to get insurance yuo'd have to bring it in to an inspection station so they can see the car. At that point they will see what's happening i'm sure. Also, if you ever wanna recoup anything like James says...I am sure you'll need receipts. And of course an appraisal.

not for my aviator though! just did everything right over the phone but maybe they just assume a s.u.v like that wouldn't be modded? however theres a e.c.u I want that boosts it by 100 horsepower and 100 torque I want to get!

Like I said it's been a while since i've had to get "new" insurance. The process of getting the car inspected might have not lasted long. It was new at the time. Unless they only do random inspections or do inspections if they see a possibility that a car's been modded.

Once it's appraised, and you have the 19A, iinsured to value, all of the mods will be noted and you will be compensated for it should the car disappear or be written off. Without the appraisal, they will want to see receipts and may or may not honour the additions depending on the value. You are supposed to disclose anything that will add value so they can charge you extra for it :)

Hey James i have'nt found anything solid yet, but a modded car did catch my eye, but the thing i worry is about reliability even if it's built right. James if you think someone might be interested in this modded car that i was looking at throw me an email or PM and i'll send you the info.

thanks for all your pointers folks!

Well, I bought my car bone stock, and it's been modded to hell and back in the performance department (albeit cosmetically all it has is OEM factory chrome wheels and limo tint). It also has roughly ~$4,000 invested into the sound system alone (all JL Audio gear, and a $1400 Kenwood head unit), and my insurance company knows about it.

I got an "adjuster" to come out and look at it before I took it to New York City to photograph the modifications done, and I had receipts to prove all of my financial transactions.

I'm 20 and have a clean driving record for 4.5 years, and am the primary driver on this car, and luckily my rates did NOT go up AT ALL once my insurance company found out that my car has a LOT more horsepower/torque than it originally did.

I just wanted to back up SHEMM that this is the case. Also to add, when insured under endorsement 19A and as "pleasure" vehicle (i.e. less than 5k/yr) premiums are very reasonable. It was less to insure my rod under endorsment 19A than regular insurance! and with better coverage (based on appraisal).
