I also say no to that. Besides the 348s sharing a forum with the 355s, qualifys the owners to say they own a real ferrari:D
Any way how unfair would it be to group the 348s with the Mondials. Now that would be be cruel;)

Unnecessary since the 355 is just a refined GT version of the 348. :p

I think the 355 should have it's own forum as the best looking modern Ferrari ever. Let the 348 guys play with the Mondail folks who share so much. ;)

OMG this from a guy with a white 355?! As if you couldn't decide on a color so you went with an absence of one. And hair gel! ;p

    I agree

348's are the last of the real Ferrari's whereas the 355s' were the first of the Ferrari hairdresser luxury "car for everyone" set....shift the 348 thread to the "classic" section whilst we watch the continued depreciation of the 355.

Thats got to be a good thing hasnt it? Then all the 348 owners that could not afford an F355 now can :D
Then you can get out of the Mondial powerd and un loved by Maranello itself, mistake ;)
Only then can 348 owners walk with there heads held high, no longer in the sate of denayal. And no longer feeling like they need to explain them self as to....Huh??!!...Why?!!! :D

I find this amusing, as the original press for the model-specific forums was the threatened transfer of the 355 to the old "Classic" forum during the Vintage-Classic-Modern days.

What is it about the 355 owners that makes them so insecure? :D :D

Nah, keep them lumped together - the banter and constant debate as to which is subjectively "better" is fun. And separating them would be like trying to separate the 328 from the 308. They're practically the same car, it's just that one is a heavily face-lifted and updated version.

Your assessment of 348 owners (and enthusiasts) in relation to 355 depreciation might have been more convincing had you used:
    • That's
    • hasn't
    • the word "previously"
    • "." at the end of your first sentence
    • powered
    • "," after powered
    • unloved
    • "." at the end of your second sentence
    • "their" instead of "there"
    • state
    • denial
    • "," instead of "." at the end of denial
    • "themselves" instead of "them self"
    • "in response" rather than "as"
    • Further use of punctuation

    For example:
That's got to be a good thing hasn't it? Then all the 348 owners that could not previously afford an F355 now can. :D
Then you can get out of the Mondial powered, and unloved by Maranello itself, mistake. ;)
Only then can 348 owners walk with their heads held high, no longer in the state of denial, and no longer feeling like they need to explain themselves in response to: "Huh??!! ... Why?!!!" :D

    ;) Hehehe :D

I have commonly heard many say that if you have to explain the attraction of Ferrari to someone, then the recipient of the explanation probably wouldn't understand anyway. I have observed the same precedent with the subjective beauty of the side strakes. ;)

Alas, I have yet to acquire a set of my very own. Someday...

    Wistfully gazing into middle-distance,
    Andrew.

SAMBOMYDOG, regarding your 348 statement"....un loved by Maranello..."

If you care to check you will find that the 348 was loved by Enzo himself, it was the last production Ferrari to be designed whilst he was in control. Proof of that view is evident as you will find it is THE model on the bookshelf in his FIORANO office, the office they have left as it was when Enzo was alive.

The 'unloved' link between Maranello and the 348 model is purely Luca Di Montezemolo, it is he who has nothing good to say about the 348, certainly wasn't the case with old school Ferrari and Enzo, consequently I am more than happy to live with that situation.

No active suspension, no power steering, built at the time when the F40 was built (actually sharing many components), whats not to like.

I am not in control of my signature, it's the moderators that have set it for me and I just leave them to it. It's rather fun seeing what they come up with. :)

    lol - you're welcome, and I'll try. ;)

    All the best,

Back in 1985 I was offered a 246 Dino for $10,000. I called a friend of mine to come with me to look at the car. I was assured it was in mint condition with low miles. My friend said,"why would you want that car,It is not even a REAL Ferrari". "It has dated styling and an underpowered Fiat motor". I didn't buy the car. We all know where this went.
Fast foreward to 2009. The economy takes a dump and 'exotic' car prices follow.I begin to look for a car and find a beautiful 348 spider(red). I proceed to read all I can about the 348-good,bad,and ugly.I buy the car,Why?

    1. Dated but beautiful styling
    2. Last of the 'simple' Ferrari convertibles-manual top, seats, steering, etc.
    3. No ugly airbag steering wheel or dash
    4. First open 2 seater since the Daytona
    5. Affordable with the exception of service(which I can do myself)
    6. Lots of parts sourced from outside Italy
    7. Limited production/importation
    8. When people see this car they instantly know it's a Ferrari.

Feel free to add to my list

I like your style Bill. I see you are about to celebrate your 1 year FChat anniversary but also note only 2 posts.

I would add to your list the direct connection to the road and no optional semi automatic transmission.

    Where do you hail from?

    Excellent post

    11. Last of the classic gated dogleg boxes
    12. Last quattrovalve application of the Dino V8
    13. Gorgeous sounding engine (no need for exhaust valve trickery)

Of all that the one I will be looking to with interest is No 7. Only 1090 spiders and even fewer SS, GTB, GTS and GTC's.....watch this space!

You know, s I reviewed this section something occurred to me. Nearly all of the technical advice on 355's come from 348 or past 348 owners. You gel heads need us, face it! :D
