Hi, i just starting doing my first anual service on my Modena 360 F1 and i had a question about the mesh filter in the transmission housing (the engine oil one).
When i removed the old filter it has signs off contact with the transmission casing, when i was about to install the new filter i looked in to the drain hole and the new filter also goes very tight against the inside of the casing, looks like its hitting the moulding on the inside for one of the bolts that holds the plate with the drain plug, when fully inserted.
Everything looks oem and intact so i dont know what is causing this or if it is normal.
    Hope someone can help.
    Kind regards Anders

Sorry i couldn't capture it on camera true the small hole but this is the placement for the filter im talking about. Was hoping someone had felt it when removing or installing the filter that it sits very tight against the casing. I couldnt see what they could have installed wrong so i was wondering if this is designed with no clearance on the tip of the mesh against the casing.

My engine one came out easily.
The transmission one was pretty tight the entire way. Once it finally popped out it was in two pieces and I thought I broke it but it snapped back together. I will probably sand it down a little to make removal and installation easier. It’s not the last time I will be doing it!

Why are you over thinking things? You have purchased a car that has run well for almost 20 years. For some reason you are concerned about a filter screen placement..20 years later. Obviously there is no issue.

Thank you, you are probably right but i think this filter has been replaced over the last 20 years and i was more worried something was wrong with the filter or installation because there were interference that hade rubbed away part of the mesh and this is metal. It was bothering me so i needed some feedback to see if someone had noticed the same thing. But you are right i always overthink things, i have always worked with cars and built a few fast ones true the years and i think this kind of thinking has saved me many times.

Years ago I removed that mesh filter and a small hole had developed due to rubbing/vibrating against the housing. Doubt that it would have caused a problem but installed a new one. No rubbing many years later. Easy to change the filter.

Ran into this same issue a couple years ago. Bought a new filter. I’m inspecting it every oil change. No issues after 3y.
