    Jon and Dan had a very respectable showing in their first competitive karting race with the Tri-C Kart Club @ CalSpeed Karting Center today. They ran consistently mid-pack in a very seasoned 21 driver field.

    Big Thanks to the CalSpeedway staff (Rob, Brad, Josh and all) for helping us newbies out and running a great track and program; and to G-Phactory's Preston for being a great and helpful host. You guys ought to give these people your karting dollars!

    And thanks to Cig1 for coming out to spend some time with us (before he had to get home for his hot date!. When he left the Speedway in the Black Series, there were definitely some heads turning as it "burbled" out at seriously increasing RPM's! :D

    -4:15am Calabasas packing of the SAV and trailer, then the departure to Fontucky
    -Starbuck breakfast
    -6:30am Track opens, check-in, pre-tech, setup, gas, etc.
    -8:00am Drivers Meeting
    -8:54am First Rotax Masters (field of 21 drivers) practice session (7 minutes)

    ......more practice sessions, qualifing for heat races, post tech (weight on scales, gas samples and "inking" of engines)......

    -Heat Race 1: Grid -JJ 14th; me 16th
    -Heat Race 2: Grid - JJ 11th; me 14th
    Main Race: Not spectacular grid position or race finish (JJ fininshed; I DNF'd (somewhat intentionally))

    Lesson learned: My laptime for the track in the race config. dropped again and is fastest of our group, but in a race laptime is meaningless as it's position that matters. :(

    Quite a long day and learning experience. The day was made even better because of the friendly and willing people at the track to try and help us through our first race. I'd also like to thank Josh, Preston, Rob, Brad and the entire crew at Calspeed.

    Lots of craziness out there but I think overall we had a good time. I'm not ready to get up at 3:30 a.m. and return at 8:30 p.m. in the near future. I'll keep on working on my driving and return in the summer for another dose of racing. There are some really good and fast drivers out there which can only make us better. :) Can't complain, brought home my body and kart the same way they left. ;)
