Do you want better thread moderation?

  1. No. Leave things exactly as they are.

  2. Yes. The example linked below is the sort of thing we don't want.

  3. Yes. But we'd like even more of the sillyness stamped out.

Do you want sensible deletion of off topic non sensical posts, in established serious threads?
Here's a great example of what I'm talking about see posts 311-317inclusive
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111269&page=16

I'm not referring to one liners, just extended off topic nonsense that ends up rail roading the original thread.

I think the Old Australian Ferrari Pictures thread should be moderated to keep the clutter out. It is fantastic to see the members' personal photos of Ferraris (and events) from days long gone. There's certainly something uniquely special about period photography. Some might even see it as giving rise to a chronicle of Australian Ferrari history. It could end up becoming an extremely valuable resource, and I've noticed at least one congratulatory post from a 'prominent' Ferrari person; one who I thought would never post in the Australian section! Hell, I'd even make that thread a sticky, I think so highly of it.

That thread should remain in the Australian section, as its subject matter is absolutely unique. The odd tongue-in-cheek comment, like JoeK and PP's joke about smoking Ferraris should be left alone, but I do agree with the other deletions, including the partial deletion of PP's post which left the smoking comment. I thought that was a satisfactory compromise. Moreover, there are probably a few more posts that could be deleted, as they add nothing. Therefore, I agree that this particular thread should be more heavily moderated.

That said, I think the moderation of the other threads should be left alone. For eg, I still don't see why the Equalizer thread was deleted. That one was good for a laugh, and was not a serious thread by any measure.

In conclusion, it is my opinion that the Old Australian Ferrari Picture thread should be rigorously moderated (as befitting its unique status), but every other thread should be moderated very, very lightly.

    IMHO, of course.

I think you guys are doing fine, deleting useless threads which get people hot under the collar is good , the odd one-liner in the Australian Ferrari photos is fine so long as it doesn't get too far off track

This section should be for fun and encouraging members to meet up as it currently does.

The only time I find it irritating is when its done in serious threads - the ones where someone has a genuine question or is sharing some interesting info.

Other than that I don't care...

Is this poll about one specific thread, or the Aussie section in general???

When I voted, I interpreted the poll as relating to the moderation of this section as a whole, i.e. leave things as they are (including in relation to other 'serious' threads). This is effectively what I said in my post.

It is my view that only one thread should be given differential treatment: the one I referred to in my post.

Your poll does not give me an option that completely reflects my view. The one I chose came closest.

I also should clarify in regards to the deleting of posts in said thread. Off-topic posts in that thread (and only in that thread) should be transferred to another, more suitable thread, rather than automatically deleted.

listen...you don't own this bloody section! do you realise this fuss is all because "you" deleted a post that made a joke about the 275 with a no smoking sign in front of it? at least it was on topic. what's asking carl about his ladyboys in thailand got to do with cars ANYWHERE, let alone australia? oh wait...a MODERATOR posted THAT one.

And the jokes about buying and selling of drugs?? on wait...we're talking about a moderator...so yes..that's fine.

you guys are bloody useless. if you're going to moderate, then moderate, but double standards or one set of rules for you and another for others is NOT acceptable.

The status quo is anything goes anywhere. There are other threads that this probably apply to as well. I am trying to set a framework for us all to understand what we want going forward. Looking at the list of the last 50 threads posted in, I don't see any other than the historic picture thread that this would apply to, but there have been many others in the past and many more to come, I hope.

I'm not a fan of deletion either. I think transference is a more palatable option (and then again, only in relation to one thread).

    That is a fair point. IMHO, the following posts should be moved (not deleted): #132, 133, 134, 205, 206, 211, 213, 218, 228 (partial), 229, 241, 244, 247-251, 286, 287, 301, 311-317.

Again, I am only expressing my personal opinion.

With no context there is no where to move them to. There is no difference between deletion and creating a stupid junk thread.
The Equalizer thread was deleted as it was a thread started by a sock puppet account to stir trouble, which is why the account was aslo banned. Regardless of the outcome of this poll, the same actions would/will be taken in those circumstances.

Okay, I see where you're coming from. Personally, I like the way our threads derail with laughter and BS; it makes this section unique. That's why I'd like things left alone. If another thread comes along which we (mostly) agree is bigger than us which, BTW, is how I would characterise the old Ferrari picture thread (and it's the only one I would thus characterise in the whole of Aussie section history, FWIW) then perhaps a poll should be established at that time in relation to the moderation of that specific thread.

The posts relating to the 993 could go to the thread where [355] asks for advice on which car his father should buy. The others could go to that 'how was your day thread' or whatever it's called. There's lots of random stuff in that. Edit :http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111540

I agree wholeheartedly, which is why I have posted to others before to not expect serious posts and not to get all bent out of shape about people having fun. That said, the issue exists here and now.

It sounds onerous, but it is only in relation to one thread, and the 'never a dull moment' thread is a pretty good catch-all.

Bloody hell, has that thread opened up a can of worms, or what! :D

    you're kidding right ??

the Aussie section, like a lot of the regional sections, is ALL off topic !!

let's just agree that the Aussie Ferrari photo thread is sacrosanct and leave it at that, it's a great thread and we'll try not to pollute it with digs at some of the photos.

Anyway, you guys have the power, so if you want just keep deleting any post that you don't like (PP, you might as well go on IGNORE) ,
