I am planning on changing the oil in the 575, the tags say use shell helix ulta.
We all know that's not available it's been replaced by the penzoil platinum 5w-40 or
    the quaker state Q 5W-40.

So I stop by the local autozone where I have been purchasing the penzoil and guess what,
none on the shelf, get the manager, look in the computer it's been discontinued. Same with the quaker state.

Anyone know what the latest oil we should be using????

    Thanks,

Shell Helix is still available. Maybe Shell does not sell it in the country you live in?

Mobil 1 should be fine. More than fine, as it is rated the best oil.
I have been using Mobil 1 in all my cars for over 30 years, from when I lived in the Arctic and now in the Tropics.
    Never had a problem.

Edit: checked in the garage, I use the 0W-40.

A shop that has worked on my car feels that Mobil 1 is probably the best synthetic out there and they are the ones that did all the early research on synthetic oil, at least in the U.S. I remember when it came on the market back in the 70's, 80's? Some have suggested that Ferrari tends to recommend whoever is sponsoring their race cars at the time, which may be how the Shell recommendation was born.

Total, liqui molly, Gulf, and a few others are a better choice then the penisoil.

Not sure about Liquid Moly. If that tech was good long term for the engines some manufacturer would have used it, maybe even in a racing application.

Besides that it is impossible to visually check the state of the oil.

I use a MoSO4 grease for the internals in my hand guns, and is it messy!

It boils down to cost. Liquid Molly is expensive..almost 16 bucks a liter Canadian funds.

Penzoil platinum full synth, with the Ferrari emblem on the bottle......

At your local Amazon keyboard ! Pricy @ $7.74 quart, but has the Ferrari
emblem on the bottle if you want the warm fuzzies doing your oil change.

Any good full synthetic 0W40 or 5W40 will work fine in a 575M and I would take most of them over vanilla Mobil 1. I use Valvoline full synthetic 5W40 in mine. Redline works fine, etc, etc. The European Formula (or whatever they call it now) Mobil 1 is pretty good stuff. The Shell Ultra Helix foamed too much for me and my techs, but the Valvoline does not.

Luqui-Moly (correct sp) is a brand name for a high end line of lubricants made in Ulm, Germany. My indy shop recently changed brand from Mobil 1 to them and they are priced competitively. Check it out, good stuff but not at a lot of retailers yet in the USA.

Mobil 1, 15/50W has 1300 ppm zinc. I would think this will suffice for flat tappet cams.

Kevin, just google "Shell Pearl Qatar"
The Pearl plant uses the Fischer Tropsch process to convert natural gas into liquid products. Now Shell is one of the largest producers of base lube oils.
With the low crude oil prices no company will built a similar plant.
It costed roughly 25 billion $. However, when the price for crude oil was around 100$, Shell earned a lot of money.

But 15W50 is heavier oil than you probably need unless you track your car. Run no more viscous oil than you need to achieve 10 psi per 1k RPM.

    Thanks, for all the input.
I guess I am just having trouble with the idea that here in America I have to order
Ferrari spec motor oil over the internet.
I just miss going to the autoparts store and walking out with something as simple as oil!
    thanks so much

I stock up Mobil 1 when ever I can get a buy on it as I use about 10 cases every fall. Euro 0W-40 for the 550 and the Astons. 10W-30 in the Pantera. 20W-50 for the H-Ds. Various other flavors for the boats and recreational vehicles. It's more than fine for most of our limited drive cycles and available everywhere. Castrol or Valvoline would be fine as well and readily available...

    Kevin,
The Shell Euro you posted is the rebadged/rebottled Shell Helix.

Confirmed this with Shell oil engineers last Friday.

You can use m1 for turbo diesel 5-40 or the same spec rotella t6 at around $23/gallon. High zinc etc. Robust additive package formulated to work in a turbocharged diesel. I buy gallons for the f car, my gas engine driver, tractor etc. Gts Bruce
