I am looking for a referral to a wheel repair shop that can remove a 1/2" from the mounting surface on a set of 360 rear wheels. Does anyone know of a shop that can do this kind of work in the East Bay Area?

    Thanks,

Wow half an inch. I had a shop in Fremont take off 8mm off the hubs mounting of my wheels. First time he charged me $100 for all 4 then the second time that I took off another 8mm he charged me $125.

Why it the world would you want to *lower* the offset?

I use to design wheels for a living and I would never do that, your messing with the strength of the wheel . You should especially be concerned with the loads this area will see with less metal there. If you still want to do this you should keep checking for fatigue cracks.

NM... I see... those 360 wheels do seem a bit too high an offset for your Mondial. IMO, they don't look that great. But regardless, as the man said I wouldn't go machining the wheels.

Maybe some fender flares?? That's how I'D go! :)

I would agree with this. Unfortunately, the Sparco wheels I had were no longer in production, and the car had a curb weight of 2200lbs ;)

Maybe look at rolling the fenders..

Roll the fender lips, the Eastwood Company sells a fender lip roller or may be some body/custom shop could do it.

make sure the lug holes are deep enough to accomodate that. you may be able to remove that much, but the wheel may be left with too little material between the lug bolt and mounting flange. Just an FYI.

Looking at my 360 wheels there's no way I'd machine a half inch off. Buy new wheels designed fit to what you want to do. I'm putting 360 wheels on my 308 but I'm not playing with the wheels, suspension (shock Dia) will be modified not the wheel to make it fit. A Wheel failure is not a pretty thing.

Here is a shot of 360s on the 308. I had the rim narrowed about an 1.5 inches in the back. Works just fine. Not sure about the strength reduction in the hub area if shaved.

If you cut the center hub down, i would be carefull of the bolts projecting too far in board and fouling the rear upright, or worse.

Chris car looks great. Shaving material off the hub of the wheel concerns me more than cutting the rim and welding it back together as was what this post started out as. My 308 will have uncut 360 rears, I will modified the suspension to compensate. I still get haunted by watching a friend of mine have a serious wheel failure in a Formula Ford in turn two at Mosport, that's why I have a wheel modification phobia.

    Thanks for the in put.

I have seen another Mondial T with 360 wheels that had the off-set increased by cutting down the mounting surface. That's where I got the idea.

I ended up contacting a custom wheel manufacturer in San Leandro named Team III Wheels who makes one off's. They also cut and weld wheels for dragsters.

Anyway, based on their input as to where the stress on the wheel would be, I went ahead and had them machine off 1/2". They even bored out and extra 1/16" that as 1/4" deep to account for the lip on the mounting plate. They spun tested the wheels and everything seemed just fine.

Removing the 1/2" allows me to use my original lug bolts. Both sets of wheels are now 3/4" thick.

Now my wheels sit just inside the fenders and I don't have a problem with rubbing.

I like the look of the 360 wheels on the car, they fill up the wheel wells and are a lot more affordable than buying a 3 piece wheels from Speedline.

Team III Wheels charged me $60.00 to machine the rear two wheels. Very reasonable I would think.

I will post a picture as soon as I have my new Toyo's installed.

I should have done that with my wheels as the I had the modify and find lugnuts to fit for awhile.
