Modified 348 Front Bumper

I saw some pictures of Ferrari 348's and I was wondering how simple these modifications are.
The yellow 348 added a second air duct on the driver side to match the passenger side. Has anyone else done this?
The red 348 seemed to put a 355 bumper on the 348, is this a direct install without fabrication/modification?

My car has a second duct in the front spoiler that leads air to the left brake.

I found this picture on the forums. It appears to be a 355 front bumper on a 348. Does anyone know whats required to achieve this?

do a search, I'm sure I saw a post about it. I think it bolts right in, but not positive.

 

i wouldnt be suprised if it is as easy as just removing the other one and bolting on the 355 bumper at the same connect points as the 348 since i think all body panels on each car are interchangable, correct??

 

Is nothing on the 355 to be left sacred?? So now that's the 355s wheels, the lower door, the bonnet air intake, the rear light conversion and now the front bumper. Have i left anything out?

I'm waiting for someone to go the opposite direction Yep - - make a 355 into a 348 with strakes, front bumper, 348 tail lights and all. Then they could honestly say their Ferrari looks like a 348 but performs like a 355 - "and I've even got an F1 tranny"

 

You forget the 348 wheels on the 355 Ha ha! i wonder if anyones done it?

 

I know a number of 348 owners have done this, but I'm not sure what they did to keep airflow to the R/F AC condenser unit. I suppose it's been posted, but I'm curious. The nose does look great on that car!

 

yes this is that i was wondering! there must be some new ductwork that needs fabricated or something.

 

I always wondered that myself... i've seen every post concerning this, nobody has yet explained how they're getting air to the A/C condenser.
I honestly dont care much, just a curiousity thing. I would never change my front bumper to the 355, I like the 348 bumper WAY better than the 355... no offense to anyone of course, just MY taste.
I would however entertain the idea of upgrading to the nifty "dual-duct" version of the 348 front bumper cover, altho I have no clue as to where to procure one... I'm totally into symmetry!

Totally agree! I plan to keep my car stock-looking, including the black top and valences. Have purchased Challenge wheels, may upgrade exhaust, and also might install 355 seats to get conventional seat belts, rather than mouse belts.

 

So is there someone out there making a twin inlet 348 bumper (as shown on the yellow car above)?

All chassis parts interchangable from 348 - 355?

No not all but nearly. The chassis has some changes on the 355 but is mainly the same as 348. Changes from wich i know
1. Rearsubframe has different mounting points for the gearbox
2. Frontfenders have different holes for the door wires
3. Rearfenders have the small spoiler thing
4. Fronthood has some different holes under the airinlet cover
5. Rearhood different ofcorse
6. Rear sheetmetal part for the taillights is different
7. Doors have different mountingpoints for the doorscoops

Mount a 355 frontskirt on the 348
Mountingpoints all the same
need to modify the right air inlet wich goes normaly to the brakes to get air to the AC cooler
need to modify the left air inlet maybe to get clearance to the battery
need to change the wirings the connectors are all different

Mount a 355 rearskirt on the 348
didn't see any differences just 1:1 exchange

Mount 355 doorscoops on the 348
Need to modify the mounting points
1. make a metal cover to close of the hole where the dooropener normaly is on the 355. make a hole in it to screw the scoop to the door on this point
2. Make 4 metal angles and mount them to the stock mountingpoints of the 348. The mountingpoints have the same position then the 355 mountingpoints
so they are on the right position . The top mounting points need a nut welded to them or you leave them away and use some silicon glue like sikaflex to
hold the scoop on the top of the door and only screw in the screw on the doorhandle and the two nuts under it.

Mount 355 taillightcover on the 348
Cut out a center section of it
cut out a vertical line of it
weld it together
form two round end pieces for each side to cover the hole between the cover and rearfenders
add mountingpoints to the cover. i used 4 in the middle near the inner taillight hole that you can screw a nut or bolt through the hole in
weld two studs on each side of the cover and drill a hole into the taillight sheet metal on the chassis.

Mount 355 taillights on the 348 in the right angle
Cut out much of the sheet metal part on the chassis to get the taillight far enough in to mount them on the right angle
weld a 90° angle to the tube frame and on top the the chassis.
exchange the wirings to fit the new taillights
Maybe weld the broken circuits inside the inner taillights back in that you have all 4 lights on instead of only two wich i think looks better

 

the 355 bumber is nice but looks out of place. It does stand out from the rest of the car.. maybe a little to much

The bumpers do bolt on front and rear. The problem is that they do not match the rest of the body. In the front there will be a gap between the top of the bumper and the front edge of the hood/suppport. In the rear the bumper is wider and has to be narrowed to fit properly. I don't have a gap on the front bumper. There also shouldn't be a gap because the metal chassis parts on the front are equal to the 355. On the rear the rear bumper is a bit wider thats right you can leave it like it is and got a small step from fender to bumper. Or push the fender a bit out.

The bumper in the pics is a Euro OEM cover made from PU (Plastic), I can also do them in Fibreglass as well.!!
