Mods are okay... ive worked in quite a few. Quality wise, stick built homes are far superior. A few reasons why is because modulars dont have the insulation quality and accessability of a stick built. Many times ive seen them delivered with the sheetrock on the studs already and have noticed that all the walls are not insulated, just the minimum requirements. Interior walls are not insulated either, although not a requirement it surely makes a home feel more solid and less noisy. Sheetrock commonly is 3/8in instead of 1/2in. Many folks have complained about this being an issue with hanging decor and such related things. Marriage walls is something ive seen in 2 x 6 and 2 x 8 instead of steel, allowing movement over time. On the upside if modular home construction is something one would do to make money in the housing market the beneficial sides would be the time period in which to build is completed rather quickly. Today people want things done fast. Bank dispurments is another factor to look at as well. Percentage breakdown is larger but also has less catergories. If you need any other help or questions please feel free to ask. I am in the process of building a home and compared the two and found cost wise stick built homes being a better investment.
