Perhaps others could comment more knowledgeably on this, but I saw an item in EVO magazine that Momo is making the style of steering wheel I have on my 308 again. Plain black metal with leather on the wheel rim. I am not sure whether it is precisely the same, but the picture in EVO sure looks like it. You might want to check it out.

I think from memory EVO were referring to the Momo Prototipo, which is available either with black or plain matallic drilled spokes. I sourced one a while back from Pelican parts and think it is a great period mod for my GT4.

I also bought one from Pelican. The black ones have been pretty readily available and the Monte Carlo style like the first pic (used on later cars) are also. The prototipo in silver though has been hard to find. Actually I think the proper wheel for my '78 is solid spoke but I never have found one of those.

I've actually started stripping my old one. It looked cracked and ragged when I took it off. Turns out most of the imperfections were in the outer layer of laquer dye. Once I started stripping it it seemed to smooth out nicely. The only thing I haven't figured out is what they use to seal around the spokes.

did you take the steering wheel off or did you take the leather wrap off the wheel itself? If you removed the leather , it would be easier to refinish, but I can't imagine how you would ever get it back on right and tight and OEM again ( lots of stiching and how would you ever "figure out what they use to seal around the spokes" must be a good glue )
