Just won this Momo steering wheel on ebay. He says it was made just for the 348. Says he paid $750 for it several years ago. I should have it by Saturday I hope. Anyone know anything about this steering wheel? I was surprised that at the end of the auction no one bid against me. My $305 stood for the last 4-5 days. I plan on using it. I have a Momo steering wheel like this in my 308 replica. The feel is excellent. Hope this one is that way also.

I gave him an extra $20 as I felt sorry he did not receive a higher bid than mine. I was ready to give $600 for it.

    Hey Rodney,

i was the other bidder against you. My limit was $400 but then got busy. Lol, you should thank me for not driving it higher, he he.

My original wheel has scratch marks on the top (I guess from the sun). I ended up buying a different Momo wheel.

It's got a hub adapter on it...maybe the 355's and 360's, with their air bags, needed such adapters.

But...my 348 needed no adapter at all for my Momo steering wheel. No big deal, though. The adapter should unbolt to easily remove it, I'd guess.

Hmmm... I think you *MAY* have gotten smoked. The original 348 wheel, as you probably know, is a stock MOMO wheel, with the center horn/plastic/foam pad with a Cavallino Rampante on it. You can swap in any other Momo wheel there, and many will accept that same center pad. Or you can swap in any other steering wheel and use just the Ferrari-logoed horn button. (That's what I did for my 355s, used Challenge adapters and got rid of the airbag wheels, put in regular, off-the-shelf Momo wheels, and a Ferrari horn button from T Rutlands for $35-$40.)

Of course, I could be wrong and this particular wheel could be off a 348 GTB/GTS or Competizione or some other non-US-imported car, but every 348 Challenge I've seen has had steering wheels different from one another (if they weren't running the stock 348 wheel).

    Good luck.

    vty,

    --Dennis

Momo supplied the 348 challenge steering wheel. The one in the challenge kit was alcantera wrapped. It still had the rubber center with yellow horn button and it has MOMO on the rubber piece. The '94 348 factory challenge came with a different wheel from the factory. Perforated leather with 348 embosed in the rubber. I bought an original factory challenge wheel on e-bay I think for $90. It's in a box in the closet, so I don't remember exactly. It's not the same as you bought though.

The 348 challenge series allowed for pretty much any steering wheel, so you may see different ones depending on driver prefence.

Just be somewhat glad you didn't spend your $600 for it. Yeah, what is wrong with it?

There is an area where all the dye has come off. Possibly from sitting in this guys show case. In all the pictures he put on ebay he does not show that area. What a jerk. Then he says he will not take it back and that I have buyer's remorse.

I filed with paypal and in 10 days I will file with ebay. What a low life to sell this and say there are no flaws other than the one on the bottom that he does show. I even gave him an extra $20 because I thought I was getting such a great item. He tells me now to resell it on ebay. Like I am supposed to do the same thing and sell it to someone else without disclosing this bad area? I would not put this on my 348. I should expect to sell it to another 348 owner and expect that they would want to put it on their 348? Not me. I can't be like that.

Is the steering wheel loose on the hub?
Is the hub loose on the shaft?
Is the shaft loose in the column?
Is the column loose on the dash?

    Describe the problem.

Sorry to hear about the burn. Pretty CS for sure. The wheel looks cool but is it airbag equipped?
If not, why would anyone replace their air bag equipped wheel with a non airbag racing version? To look cool when you're dead.? The reason race cars don't have airbags is because they have padded roll cages, 3" 6 Pt. belts and harnesses, submarine belts, fire systems, safety nets, removable steering wheels, pop out windows, battery cut off switches, fuel bladders, removal of all unnecessary stuff that will become missiles when crashed, etc., etc. The technology is there for a reason, it's there to protect you on the street from other idiots and yourself. Sorry, as someone who has raced cars for many years and has been involved both on and off the track in some pretty nasty incidents, I have to say it the way it is. Don't believe all that BS about airbags causing injuries, unless you're seven years old or worried about your scuffed up chin, the technology is there to keep you here, not six feet under. Don't let vanity replace common sense. Sorry again, but this hits a nerve with me, these comments are not specifically directed at you but to anyone who will take heed. Some of us in this forum have seen the consequences of not keeping the odds in your favor and it's not pretty. Peace...out.

Really?? Can you post a pic of your steering wheel? I have never seen a 348 with an airbag. Is it aftermarket? I thought they 1st came in 1995 355's. :):)

Wow that sucks, be sure to leave him some bad feedback, after you get your money back of course. It's people like this that give ebay a bad name and make it more of a hassle for the people that want to do honest business on there.

Hey Pap, sure can do, but I won't see my car until next week sometime, I keep it in storage away from the house. I went online and found a few 1992 examples with driver airbags listed and ads that don't list the airbag, got me.? I don't know if it was optional or mandatory here in the states in '92'.
Maybe Nodoubt or Daniel can answer the mystery.Pap, do you ever sleep?

348 did not come with airbags. Not in US or Euro models. NONE had airbags from the factory. The US cars had seat belt tracks to meet Fed regulations in place of airbags. Ferrari got a special pass because of low volume cars. No Ferrari had an airbag from the factory until the 355 model.

The 348 wheel has a rubber pad on the center wheel. Take it off and look. There is no airbag under it.

Thanks Doc for the info, Interesting how my car and some others advertised state drivers side airbags. Again, this shows how the "Brotherhood" looks out for it's own.
