I'm in the early stages of planning a visit to see this race. Anyone ever been? Any recommendations on where to stay and things to do?

I've been attending the GP de MC for the past 20 years (May 2012 will be #21), and have commented extensively on this subject. If you do a search for posts I've made you'll come up with quite a few and should find the answers to your questions, but feel free to contact me as needed.

    THANKS, Ed- hope all's well!
As for returning to MC, well, patience is a virtue, my friend- you'll get there!

FWIIW: I'm going to the Historic F1 GP next year. Every two years the historic F1 cars "race" at Monaco 2 weeks before the F1 GP.

I'll be staying in Nice and take the train to the event, which I recommend to anybody going to the F1 GP as well. Other than that, enjoy the "savoir vivre" at the Cote d'Azur. :)

It is very different: no race but more of a festival akin to Goodwood

Financially a lot cheaper and more accessible. A bit like F1 before Bernie :)
