Does anyone know how long Monaco keeps the circuit set up during the spring/summer? I know it takes a long time to erect stands and all the barriers, plus they host races other than the F1 weekend (at least one that I know of, if not more). Yes, I know that the roads are open to traffic each day after the racing is done, but watching the race again made me wonder how long they keep all that racing stuff around. Rather than do a lengthy internet search, I figured my best was to check with yooz guyz.

The circuit takes several weeks to put up but is disassembled much more quickly. I believe in just a few days. Certainly they already start taking down barriers and things almost as soon as the race has finished. I have been to the GP a few times and been there the morning after the race and it already looks pretty different.

I'm not sure what they are doing about the new pit complex this year, though. I imagine that also gets taken down and stored somewhere.

I was there a couple of years ago on Tuesday after the race and it was a very different world. They were very busy taking everything down. The armcos were still in place, so I was able to drive a couple of laps on the "track" with the right feeling. Even pulled into the pitlane until I got thrown out by a policeman. Taped it all with inboard camera, kinda funny to see the marshall's angry face and then the car goes into reverse.

The thing that surprised me the most was how fast the town is back to normal: Over the race weekend there is not a single street that doesn't have at least one Ferrari. Once the race is gone, so are the exotics. In the whole town I spotted just one Ferrari at the Loews hotel. Bummer.

the last time we were there we played a round of golf with the fellow who's company erects the armco barriers. he told us it takes about two weeks to set up the barriers and just a few days to break down. the stands are done by someone else. usally the week before the GP they have the historic cars run.

Andreas is right- the disassembly begins at once and goes much more quickly than the lengthy assembly process. The GP occurs well before the high season in Monaco, so yes, there aren't many Ferraris around by Monday afternoon (and it really does look like a different town), but things pick up in the Summer.
