i went to monaco last year.it is a must for ALL die hard F1 supporters, i sat on t section which was great, for practice and quli. i was opposite ferrari pits and got amazing footage with vid and camera. For the race i sat in k section high also another good spot but that was because of the atmosphere the boats the view. no big screens only to the left. at t section 2 giant screens which were great. just a little info for those who are going

I went for the last 2 years and going again this year. This year the weekend before the actual GP there will be the Historic Grand Prix which is pretty cool.

I can recommend Stand T (iirc) - the new one opposite the pitlane that has the commentary booths in it. If you can get the top few rows you'll have shade for most of the day which is rather helpful, plus you've got a great view of the pits, the big screen, and the swimming pool chicanes. The only problem is the plunging dollar.

always seats available on the hill. you just need to get there early enough. the best thing to do is bring a sleeping bag and spend the night.

what we like to do is go to la rasscase (now cafe grand prix) on thursday for practice. it's great for photos. to sit near the first turn, st devote, you'll need to find a terrace for the best view. ira is the guy to talk to about that as he goes every year.

Actually, it's called Rascasse again- go figure! I prefer the K grandstands- if you get high-row seats in a low stand (try K2 or K3 if possible) you not only get a good view of the giant screen, but can see from the exit of the tunnel all the way over to the swimming pool. If you're lucky enough to get a seat in the top row in K you can not only stand the whole time if you like, but can also turn around and see the start/finish straight and Ste. Devote too. Of course, if it rains, you're screwed, so paying for a spot on one of those terraces may be a good deal- the only qualm I've always had is that you normally can't actually see what you're getting in advance.

i've thought about K; but how do you get to the stand? i think there's an elevator down from the park next to the casino but that puts you off next to the road, doesn't it? you can see that big screen from the hill with binocs. most of the terraces i've seen advertised online show the views. perhaps fchatters should get together and take an entire terrace.

The elevators are generally shut down once the roads close early in the morning (the one you're referring to lets you off in the tunnel otherwise!), so if you're coming down to the Condamine from up in Monte Carlo you need to walk the long way around- go past the train station and keep heading down from there- the route towards K, etc. is marked and easy to follow. From my hotel (the Alexandra, a couple of blocks from Casino Square) it takes me a good 15 minutes walking briskly. Taking an entire terrace for Fchat some time might make good sense, but I've alreadybought my tickets for '08 (in K3- high row).

whew, that is the long way around, especially with the hills. we're planning to go in 2010 so we may have the time to plan out the terrace adventure. i've lost contact with the local folks we met. how far in advance do you arrive? i'm wondering if these spots are advertised locally.

I usually arrive on the Wednesday before the race so that I can settle in and watch practice on Thursday morning. I'm sure that terraces are advertised locally and on-line, but it'd probably be best to book something well in advance if a bunch of folks are going to come from afar. I'm on chummy terms with some of the staff at my hotel, and they could certainly help.
