Less than 2 minutes in Practice #1 and Alonso is first followed by Davidson, Fisi, MS, Montoya, Kubica (showing stop), Wurz and Massa is showing 14th. Kimi shows 2 laps and Heidfeld shows 1 lap.

Alonso - 1:16.712; Fisi 3rd at 1.16:888 and MS - 1:16.973 - looks like the mind games are beginning for the weekend as well as Renault domination. Something is a miss with Kimi - showing 2:06.592. Rosberg shows in 12th ahead of Webber (way to go!!). Heidfeld shows no time.

Looks like Red Bull is putting on quite a show with their "Superman Returns" theme this year in promoting a new movie - "In 2006, new Hollywood blockbuster 'Superman Returns' will get the Red Bull treatment, with the team currently putting the final touches on a spectacular adaptation to its huge motor home, which is floating in the Monte Carlo harbour.

The Energy Station's front entrance now resembles the headquarters of Clark Kent's 'Daily Planet' building."

Seems things have flip-flopped - looking like prior practice sessions. MS is currently 2nd. Alonso has not yet been out. As I mentioned in the previous post - a great mind game is underway! Still 47 minutes left in this session.

Davidson out after missing an apex and understeering into the wall. Lets hope this gives the red cars a little regroup time so they can get back out and set faster times.

    Mark

edit: And now Kubica into the wall to bring out red flag number three.

apparently didn't do much for the red cars (did get Massa up the ladder a few steps) but did afford Kimi the opportunity to now be in 3rd.

Kimi stopped on the track with smoke coming out of the car. Sounds like a new engine and a ten spot penalty. In Monaco! His race is already over.

If Kimi would take all his bad luck with him to Ferrari, I would rather seeing him going elsewhere.

BTW, Ferrari somewhat dissapointing today. Monteiro doing VERY well in second practice.

Unfortunately I'm traveling and they don't have Speed here (b@stards!). Is Ferrari laying in the weeds or are they really struggling for pace on the super softs? MS had a decent first session time, but he's slower than FM in the second, so we can toss that result out.

Either they're not showing their hand in the practices, or they're not as quick as they assumed. I'm thinking it's the former. However we can be certain that Renault is not showing their hand either. I would assume everyone is holding back as 1:16's are relatively slow times on the Monaco circuit. It'll be interesting, but Ferrari's trend has been to show some pace in the early practice.

BTW, welcome back Carol. We missed you the last two races.

Thanks Rick & Andreas. Let's just say that the month of April is definitely on my put behind me month. Started with the cancellation of the F1 Test day (found out about 3 days prior to departure); did go to San Marino GP (had a lovely time, again!) but that was the "calm before the storm" - actually put my dad in the hospital 6 April for a weeks worth of tests; took him for another test 14 April which confirmed pancreatic cancer; had Hospice care and 24/7 private care; he passed away on 3 May so...being his only "survivor" I have been extremely busy handling everything - thank goodness for a wonderful husband/best friend thru all this.

Thanks again guys for the very nice comment. I even missed doing F1 tipping and grid bids!!!

    You guys are great!!!

    Regards,
    Carol

Very sorry to hear about your troubled times. In the end love is what it is all about.

Now to something much more light hearted and utterly ridiculous:

    F1 Practice in Monaco!

So sorry to hear about your dad. I had the same thing happen to me almost a year to the day to my dad. He fell one day and we found out he had an inoperable brain tumor. We went through almost the same exact experience, including handling all of the "aftermath" which still continues a year later (even though I have 5 brothers, responsibilities always fall on only one or two of us). My dad was my mentor and I think about him always. Knowing that he would expect me to continue striving for excellence at work and in being a husband and dad keeps me going. I think fondly of the good times and not too much of those final days.

Best wishes to you and we're glad to have you back.

No, you forget, he is at his best when storming thru the field from starting last. I wouldn't bet on him winning, but I'd bet a top-5.

According to a few new stories, just a heat shield burning (?!) and melting the wiring. The motor itself should be fine.

That may be the case, but unfortunately, just being in the top 5 will just make his race exciting but still no closer to the title.

That's kinda what I was hinting at...if Ferrari is on pace, they are among the fastest in that first practice. They were sort of competitive, but both Renaults were in front of Michael.

OTOH, I can flat out guarantee you that nobody in the top 15 will be doing 1:16's for qualifying. We haven't seen Ferrari at its fastest, but it's concerning that they are just part of the crowd right now.

Reminds of those rolling chicane cars you can get for your slot car track. The trick is to get passed them without loosing it.

I agree with Remy, this is going to get really good. And I bet even the press conference thereafter will be fun with lots of complaints and excuses.
