Just as I expected when I brought the computer on line. Hamilton leads the first practice. With approximately 42 minutes remaining in the session Lewis is .694 ahead of Alonso, .734 over Massa, .850 over Kimi, 1.074 ahead of Kubica. Session was red flagged earlier to get Alber's Spyker off the track when it came to a stop.

STR and Spyker comprise the bottom of the timing chart.

Good day Brian - guess it can be called dedication being up at 3:45 am to stare at a computer screen. Aren't you about 13 hours ahead of me??

Times just changed again with Alonso ahead. Hamilton -.628, Kimi -.945, Massa -1.216, Kubica -1.702

    Sato is in 17th.

Kubica seems to be pretty steady in practice.

As you well know this is only practice, but when the element of timing enters the scene a competitive nature develops.

I hope you're right about the Ferrari drivers this weekend.

About 10 minutes left in the session:

    Alonso
    Hamilton -.628
    Heidfeld - .643
    Kimi -.945
    Massa -1.216
    Kubica -1.702

Ron may be spot on with his post about Heidfeld and the BMW at Monaco.

Good morning Carol. Looks like LH is already on top of the sheets again. I think he's the one to beat this weekend.

Good morning Mark - I agree with you but did you see what Heidfeld did in P1? He was in third only .643 behind Alonso. The BMW's have been doing some significant improvement of late. Honda and Toyota on the other hand . . .different story.

Kubica just jumped ahead of Lewis into P1 with Lewis back .347.

Interesting year for sure. Have a great day!

I like seeing Kubica doing well. In the future, I see him doing great things. And speaking of RB, he just reset P1 with Massa and Kimi right behind him. This is going to be a great battle.

So far in the dry, maybe. But if it rains....who knows. It'll be a crap shoot for sure.

When was the last time Hammie drove an F1 car in the rain ?

Hamilton put it into the wall with about 32 minutes left. He was pushing too hard for Friday practice, it was bound to happen.

Why would you wish ill will on a Ferrari driver if you're a fan of the team? Are you hoping for a bad finish from Massa so you can say ha I was right he sucks?

We don't need this type of thing on this forum. Definitely NOT a Ferrari fan. Perhaps just another one of many trolls.

I can think of at least 2 threads where you have recently been ripping on Kimi.
    So who's the troll?

wow, relax guys.......i'm most definately a Ferrari fan, just not a fan of Massa......geez, you guys are sensitive!! I want Kimi to win , but wouldn't be upset at all if the rookie or one of the Sauber/BMW drivers win.......nothing wrong with rooting for the underdogs.......

As a Ferrari fan I don't always have to like both drivers. I don't like Massa and want Kimi to win. That doesn't make me a troll.

With a race like Monaco that rewards the best driver, Alonso will likely win as he is currently the best F1 driver on the grid.

I think you missed Carol's point.

Making a comment criticizing one of the Ferrari team drivers is not the same as not wanting them to win. Many people have ripped into Raikkonen, but I would suggest that most of us still want him to win or at least place second to Massa. In other words, Phil/Kimi 1-2, or Kimi/Phil 1-2, doesn't matter, the tifosi do not care. I am disappointed in Raikkonen, but at the end of the day, if Massa isn't winning, I hope it is Kimi. Not a driver from any other team.

At the end of the day, I do not care which of them wins the WDC, as long as one of them does and Ferrari wins the Constructor's Championship.

This is a Ferrari chat site, we assume most everyone here supports the team irrespective of who wins.

While I don't dispute the logic in this, Monaco is a gambling resort and chips sometimes fall where they may. If somebody punts the lead driver into the wall, there is little that guy can do about.

Of all the places Monaco is where it ain't over till the fat lady sings.

Thursdays times at Monaco matter so little as the track is so green. There is plenty of racing and practice to go. The real race is for the pole on Sat. Hopefully Kimi and Massa for the front row. Hamilton pushing hard enough to stuff it on Thursday is a rookie mistake leading to extra work for the team and the potential to push their whole weekend schedule off for setting up the car for Qualifying.
