Last years poletime was a 1:12.178s. at the MonacoGP but while Raikkonen was slower in 2005 with a 1:13.644s, it did sound faster.

No problem. I either wait for someone to start it, if not then I'll start it.

yep, imagine that engine with todays hypersofts, tyre dimensions, and chassis, suspension dimensions.......and todays aero [sigh]. Times would be equal at least.

I’m curious why you think this? The current cars have a bit more horsepower and certainly have gobs more torque available (via pre-spooling and direct electric drive). The V10s might be competitive at faster tracks, but not at a “Chutes and Ladders” track like Monaco.

Yes on the torque on tracks like Monaco with the current F1 cars. But look at how long it's been. 2005 to 2017.....12 years and only 1.5 sec difference???? Also, batteries weight alot. Even a V-8 w/KERS unit might be just as competitive.

There was talk of the 2021 rules of the current 1.5 V-6 w/KERS twin-turbo bringing hp up to 1100 to 1200hp....again it's just talk for now, but I could stomach that.

Keep in mind that the FIA spent some of those years actually trying to slow the cars down...and that the recent attempts to make them "faster" have been focused on cornering and not Vmax.

The current cars are bigger and heavier. Let's see what the pole time is this year...1.5 seconds is not trivial and I bet that margin will be larger in a few days.

Are the garages and team homes permanent structures in Monaco or are they custom made for this one race? I'm just curious since they look like custom team homes with garages on the ground floor, compared to other races with team homes in the paddock behind the garages.

"garages" are two story. Team homes: RedBull/STR builds a "home" in another dock not far away and then it's transported on water. There's a youtube vid of this. It's quite the party scene. Others build "homes" in the dock side but not as big as RedBull/STR

Curious whether they have the photographers hole at the outside of Rascasse now as indicated in the map...during the Monaco Historic GP it was missing
