I will save all of you by not repeating my profane rant upon discovering that next Sunday's race will be broadcast (delayed again) on CBS. Yesterday I was confirming that my TiVo had scheduled to record practice, qualifying, the race and Inside Grand Prix on next weekend..........*(&%&*#$&@#$@&%#*#** the race is not on SPEED!!!!!!

I'll be up early to watch timing and scoring in silence, and then watch the race, also in silence since I have no technological tools to filter-out the inane CBS commentary......

Some of us don't get SPEED, so we don't have a choice but to watch whatever we can get. They moved SPEED to one of them hi-def tiers, and I just can't stomach paying an extra $24 a month on top of the $40 I already spend for 'basic'. That, and I don't have a hi-def TV anyway. yet.

Probably the "ugliest" aspect of the CBS broadcast, at least here in the East, is that it's scheduled at 12 noon--the same time as the Indy 500!

I am glad that CBS is broadcasting this race. If there a perfect race to throw away to a lousy broadcaster it would be Monaco for sure.

This is perhaps the most boring race on the calendar with virtually no overtaking. Last year, we had two superb overtaking moves from Heidfeld (on Alonso) and Michael (on Rubens) but that was because of the single tire rule. This year, we have no hope of that thanks to the tire changes being allowed.

Having said that I am super glad that Speed is broadcasting qualifying as Monaco offers the most excitement during qualifying.
Anyway, you diehards can catch the re-run on Speed next week. I watched the Spanish GP yesterday and somehow, the Speed crew made a dull race seem pretty good despite me having seen it before on CBS. I will be watching the Monaco race replay on Speed for sure.

It is a well-known statement that Monaco is the race that separates the men from the boys. While that has been true till the end of 90s, I can't say the same for the last few years. It has been a Michelin stranglehold for the last few years and despite Michael's considerable talents, he hasn't been able to qualify in the top row to put himself in a position to fight for a win. Sad!

I didn't know this until now and I'm actually glad. The IRL really sucks imo and I hope more people flipping through the channels stick with CBS. From the point of view of a non-race fan, which would you want? Fast cars driving through a waterfront city or oval racing for 2+ hours?

This is similar to Stephan King airing Desparation during the American Idol finals. Genious! Seriously.

Edit: CBS says the race will be 12:30 PM EDT (so I guess 1 PM the lights go out). 1 PM EDT is what ABC says for green flag. Bring it on!

No I mean Heidfeld on Alonso at the chicane after the tunnel. Prior to this Webber was trying messily to overtake Alonso whose rear tires were worn to a slick. Heidfeld did in an easy, smooth move. Webber who was following Heidfeld at the time, struggled a couple more times and then finally got thru

I don't understand the constant 'no overtaking' comments at Monaco. True, there are not as many there as at other venues, but when there ARE overtaking manuevers, they are ballsy to say the least, and usually interesting.
Back when men drove 'real' cars with manual shifters, you prayed someone would miss a shift so you could get around them, but today, with automatic transmissions and cruise control (!), that is one more thing taken away from the equation.
I guess that's another reason I don't hold the drivers today in as high a regard as the ones 15+ years ago. Now before anyone goes off on me, I didn't say anyone today (MS) is a bad driver or unworthy of a WDC, but it's different, just as the 60's were different from the 50's, 70's from the 60's, 80's from the 70's, it's called 'progress', I guess... as I said on other threads, 'someone' has to be crowned a champion, and the best person at the time usually is.

This is actually good for me. I will not have access to the Speed Channel the weekend of the race. So, now I get to watch one of my favorite races.

I'm not too crazy about CBS having the Silverstone race, though.

Hmm - I believe that when I watched the Spanish GP on CBS it was broadcast in HD, at least at my house in Seattle.

Maybe I am mistaken, maybe not.

None of the F1 races have been broadcast in HD yet, there have been rumors that they will try to start doing this. However nothing is official as of yet.

I happened to be home Saturday night and caught SPEED's rebroadcast or the Spanish GP. The commentary was so much better that I have made up my mind to boycott the remaining CBS coverage. The less action there is on the track the more the insight of Machett, Varsha and Hobbs is needed. I have waited my whole life for this race, I think I can make it another week.
